Wild and Majestic: Romantic Visions of Scotland
Our landmark summer exhibition, Wild and Majestic,
opens next Wednesday 26 June at the National Museum of Scotland.
From the Romantic movement of the 18th and early 19th centuries to Queen
Victoria’s beloved Balmoral, discover how romantic interpretations of the
Scottish Highlands and Islands became enduring symbols of wider Scottish
identity through Highland and military dress, royal visits, art,
music, literature, and the beginnings of the Scottish tourism industry.
Featuring rich displays and iconic objects, the exhibition invites you to
think again about the meaning and relevance of ideas that continue to
define Scotland today.
