Things to do this weekend in Leeds, London and New York

Here is my weekly blogpost with ideas of things to do in Leeds, London and New York for those of my followers who live in or near there:

Hi ,
You're gifted when it comes to making people laugh; you've been playing your instrument for a few months now; brushing up your poetry skills; and you're ready to show the world what you've got. You may not be ready for stadiums, but local Open Mic Nights are a good place to start.

We Can Time Travel

This Sunday 2nd June, 5pm

at The Holbeck, a community club for everyone
run by Slung Low

You Pay What You Decide

Following his award-winning ‘Songs for the end of the World’, musician and theatre-maker Dom Coyote presents his brand-new sci-fi infused solo work, ‘We Can Time Travel’.

Since he was a boy, Dom has been receiving messages from the Traveller, a mysterious voice, at the edge of time. Join him for an experiment in DIY time travel as he sets out to change his fate.

Jump into a world of analogue synths, cassette tapes, live looping, epic storytelling and roaring songs to raise a rallying cry for our times. Discover a secret society of Time Travellers and take a leap into the unknown.

‘We Can Time Travel’ is commissioned by Shoreditch Town Hall and supported by Quarterhouse Folkestone and Bristol Ferment. Funded by Arts Council England and Unity Theatre Trust.

Dom Coyote is an award-winning composer, performer and writer of songs, based in Bristol who has created work with Old Vic, Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre, Art Angel, Cirque Bijou and Battersea Arts Centre. He is a regular collaborator with Kneehigh Theatre.

What to Do This Weekend:

6 Things to Do

Happy Friday! Need some inspiration for how to spend this weekend? We've rounded up the six best things to do in London, the UK and beyond.

Plus, scroll down to subscribe to C&TH for a discounted offer and get a free gift from Guava & Gold...

For the evening commute: Listen to this week's House Guest podcast with Interiors Editor Carole Annett and Lord Spencer.

What's On in London?

With his distinguishably punk-rock aesthetic that disrupts grand galleries whenever his work is on show, Franz West, a key European art figure of the 20th century, was the creator of countless sculptures, paintings and furniture that were always ironic and always playful. This weekend is the last chance to see the exhibition where you'll be able to pick up, handle and move replicas of his Passstücke (Adaptives).

The weather forecast this weekend is hot but cloudy. So if, despite the sun hiding away you want to be outside making the most of the heat, book a table at one of our tried and tested London restaurants with breathtaking views. Pictured is French restaurant Le Pont De La Tou which sits by the River Thames and offers picture-perfect views from all angles, day and night.

London Restaurants with the Best Views

ENDS SUNDAY: Head to the Fashion & Textile Museum and be transported back to the wonderful and wacky world of the swinging sixties. The exhibition focusses on The Chelsea Set, a group made up of designers, architects, artists and photographers who spearheaded the rebellion against the strict and established conformity of 1950s London.

Swinging London: A Lifestyle Revolution

What's On in the UK & Beyond?

George Underwood, the esteemed David Bowie collaborator, musician and artist, will host a solo exhibition in Gloucestershire’s The Fosse Gallery. The exhibition will consist of approximately 30 oil paintings, all available for purchase (and of course, admiration) with prices ranging from £950 – £10,000. Opening this Sunday, head to the Fosse Gallery and be one of the first to see it!

Reading might not be the first place you think of when it comes to gastronomic delights, but Berkshire is actually brimming with culinary talent. From cool new concept members’ clubs to fine Michelin-starred French cuisine, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for in our selection...

With some of the country’s most beautiful beaches (and reliable surf) Newquay is the unrivalled surfing capital of Cornwall. But there’s more to this popular seaside resort town than surf shacks and wetsuits. Read our guide to the ultimate weekend away in Newquay, from hotels to restaurant recommendations!

June is a time for freedom, liberation and the celebration of Pride! As such a diverse city, a new yorker’s head may be spinning just thinking about where and when to properly celebrate this month. The truth is, there’s a ton of amazing things to do, see and experience as streets, organizers and venues gear up to celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride. Here are just 19 Pride events happening that you can snag entry to. 💖🎊🤩
Memphis Minnie, blues singer, was a pioneer in the genre being the first to go electric during the 1940’s. Her vibrant music is considered one of the links between acoustic Delta blues and Chicago sound, forever altering the development of the genre. In her honor, the New York Guitar Festival will use this weekend’s event to pay homage via sets performed by artists Dj Spooky, David Bomberg and more. 🎼💅📻

No Cost or Cover Events
There's no reason to stay home on your time off, even if you're budgeting! When you're living in the city, things cost an arm and a leg, but some fun is free. Yes, free to enjoy. Check out our guide of the no cover events and festivals that popped up on our radar into June!
Where To Celebrate Pride
There are tons on tons of liberating and vast events organized all over the city! Knowing this, a helpful guide has selected which of these are musts to experience before June is over. Many events are for fun and expression but still pack a punch geared at spreading awareness about the violence toward the LGBTQIA+ community and more. In this case, walking in a parade, boarding a float or partying this month can have a real positive impact so find out which event is right for you!
Blues Rebirth With Memphis Minnie
Music is always changing, adapting and absorbing the crossover sounds and styles of artists across and in between genres we know and love. Memphis Minnie straddled and birthed her sound as the first Blues guitarist to go electric. In celebration of her influence on artists like The Rolling Stones and features on hits from today's greats like Beyonce and Eminem, The NY Guitar Festival is dedicating their 20th anniversary event to her musical legacy.
This Weekend's Guide
The city is loud, exciting and bright as well as calm, dazzling and soothing. In this weekend's guide, we've compiled a string events that would suite any of your needs, from a night out with a drink in hand to a creative crafts event in a thriving garden.

Amy Winehouse died of alcohol intoxication at the tender age of 27. She had cried out to us in her music.
“She has to be remembered as the great Amy Winehouse… She didn’t give a f*ck.” Veteran photographer, Phil Knott, curator of “Didn’t Know You Cared” waxes poetically about his fellow Londoner Amy Winehouse as he readies the world for 27 unreleased images of the fallen pop star at Mixduse Gallery in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

With time comes change, and there’s plenty of that going on at Alidoro's new Midtown Manhattan location-- especially with Hungry Pop’s two-hour, open bar happy hour feast (bottomless imported Italian beers and red & white wines; need we say more?!) launching weekly starting on Friday, June 21st at 6 PM.
The establishment will be loaded from front to back with imported Italian meats, cheeses, and more-- so much so, that you’ll be able to break their tradition of only ordering off its menu and for the first time ever, with a lil’ help from Alidoro’s expert sandwich makers, you’ll build your very own Italian sandwiches stacked with Italian meats and cheeses like imported prosciutto, capicollo, soppressata, fresh mozzarella (and don’t forget those specialty toppings like arugula, sun dried tomatoes, and roasted red peppers, amirite?)!
