Hello
New York,
You can sip some
wine while you paint or enjoy some fireworks after the scavenger hunt at
Coney Island! Just don’t start making any plans without taking a look at our Weekend
Wanderer Guide first! 🎨🚲
NYC just declared
a climate emergency calling for restless action against global
warming. It became the first US city with more than a million residents to do
this. 🔥🌍
Public green
spaces are vital for mental health wellness but somehow the demands of our
fast-paced city keep making New Yorkers choose between the two. The City
Council is turning the Elizabeth Street Garden into affordable housing and
not everyone is pleased. 🌱🏙
Now, getting an
alert on your mobile device about the availability of discounted or free
high-quality food from local grocers or farmers is a life-changing
possibility. Social networks concerned with the future of food are providing innovation
to counter food waste in NYC. 🤖♻️
There’s a piece of
paradise, away from skyscrapers and the MTA for sale! The multi-million
dollar private island boasts water filtration, solar panels, flood
protection and the most serene views of the city you could ever imagine. 🌴💧

Housing Over Gardens
There
are few things NYC lacks but green open spaces and affordable housing are two
of them. With living costs and congestion on the rise for New York, it’s
unfortunate to see the supporters of both causes battling it out over the
project transforming Elizabeth Street Garden.
The garden that's
been used for fashion shows and wellness events has garnered the attention of
many who’d rather protect it than have the space transformed into living
units. The question here being, why must there be an elimination of one in
order to have the other?

Tech Feeds the Hungry
From
Brooklyn’s small romantic eateries to Manhattan’s quick paced bars, the city
offers an immense amount of culinary choices around the clock, anywhere on
the map. The downside of all those opportunities to eat in New York? All the
opportunities to waste food while New Yorkers go hungry.
Thanks to the bridge
between tech and food, more people are creating platforms that allow grocers,
farmers and other donors to alert the public, especially those in need when
food is too ripe to remain on shelves.

Ideal Everyday Shoes
Sponsored by:
Most
people have trouble finding their ideal shoe size. One size is too small, and
the next size up is too big. That’s because, up until now, shoes were only
available in whole and half sizes.
Atoms are the
first shoes to come in quarter sizes. In addition to more size options, Atoms
allows customers to select a different size for their left and right foot so
they can find the perfect fit.

13 Million Dollar Island
Your
next vacation is closer than you think and the price tag only reads 13
million bucks. If you’ve got that to spare then you’re totally in luck! The
reclusive yet transparently located land dubbed a self-sustainable private
island is up for purchase after 11 years in Al Sutton’s possession.
Columbia Island in
New Rochelle is only 30 minutes from Manhattan yet its circumstance, being
encompassed by water, make it an incredibly attractive option for those
looking for a regular getaway. Other islands like Columbia Island are on the
lesser known side of New York’s real estate market.

Public Art Advocate
William
Soltis’ public art titled “Divergence” made a lasting impression on commuters
making their way through Cuyler Gore Park in Fort Greene. While commuting on
his own, the emptiness of the triangular green space between Flatbush, 7th
Avenue and Park Place made its own impression.
Soltis’ decided to
reach out to the Park Department and pitch them his idea to construct a new
work there which would stand at ten feet tall. The tower-like piece is
currently in the works and will be called, “Under The Sun.”
