With details of upcoming performances at Slung Low:
The Chef Show
by Nick Ahad
Directed by Stefan Escreet
This
Sunday 23rd June, 5pm
at The Holbeck, a community club for everyone
run by Slung Low
You
Pay What You Decide
A delicious
fusion of comedy, play and cookery.
Two actors play all the roles in the story of a busy night in
the local curry house. They are also joined by a chef from your very own
local restaurant offering a spicy cookery demonstration. Includes a
chance to share food and conversation with your local chef and the cast.
Deliciously entertaining for all the family!
The story of The Chef Show centres on
father and son Abdul and Khalid on a particularly busy night in their
restaurant. As they struggle to deal with all of the customers ‘out
front’ and the staff in the kitchen they also have to decide on the
future of the family business. Will Khalid carry on the family
business, or is this the end? Much of the fun of the show comes
from seeing just two actors having to play multiple roles – in the same
scene!
With Guest Chef from MyLahore, Leeds.
Winner of the Rural Touring Award for Stage Performance of the
Year 2018 and Cumbria Life Culture Award 2019

Standing
in the Rain
- a new documentary -
Sunday 7th July, 7pm
at The Holbeck, a community club for
everyone
run by
Slung Low
It’s hard
to imagine that it was six months ago we moved from the HUB to
the Holbeck.
And when we started the move in January we were followed by
brilliant documentary maker Brett Chapman from Sheffield.
He’s made a documentary about the first few months of our time at
The Holbeck. It’s a really lovely and honest film about two
communities coming together and all the ups and downs of our move
into the club.
It’s 20 minutes long and we’re intending to enter it into
documentary competitions and host it on the internet but before
all of that we thought it would be lovely to have a screening at
the club.
So on 7th July at 7pm we’ll be having a screening down at The
Holbeck. We’ll put some food on and watch it all together.
That evening at 5pm we are also welcoming the brilliant theatre
company Ugly Bucket with their very silly, very filthy clown show
about sex, Two Clowns One Cup.
So you could make a full evening of it. Come down at 5 to watch
the most exciting new young theatre company and stay on for a bit
of tea and to watch the documentary.

Whatever happened to the
Holbeck Cup?
When the Slung Low team first moved into The Holbeck, the
nation’s oldest working men’s club, we discovered an old safe that hadn’t
been opened in generations. Inside the safe we found a beautiful antique trophy.
We named it The Holbeck Cup and decided that it must be used for
something important. Later in the year we were asked to attend the
National Student Drama festival as company in residence and support the
next generation of theatre makers as judges, mentors and workshop
leaders. Immediately the use for The Holbeck Cup became clear. We would
award the cup to the most exciting young company we could find, together
with a cash prize and the opportunity to perform on our stage at The
Holbeck. We went in search of a company with extraordinary promise and
work of the highest quality. And we were not disappointed. What we found
was Ugly Bucket, a brilliant Liverpool-based company that specialise in
clowning. Their explosively energetic and honest NSDF show Bost Uni-Plues offered
a fresh, critical and seriously silly perspective on the university
experience. We really loved it and are we’re so thrilled to be able to
present their next show Two
Clowns One Cup here at The Holbeck. Don’t miss out on the
opportunity to see this fantastic young company before they go off to
smash it at the Edinburgh festival.
The winning show is...
2 Clowns, 1 Cup
Sunday 7th July, 5pm

You Pay What You Decide
Sex. It’s raw, passionate and intimate. But sometimes, sex can be
downright funny. Ugly Bucket have invited women to dish all the dirty
details, and now they invite you to join two clowns on a wild journey of
sex and self-discovery! From puberty to puppetry, condoms to clowning,
music and masturbation, 2 Clowns 1 Cup explores everything unsexy in sex,
with little left to the imagination. Sexy, honest and stupid: Ugly Bucket's
new piece of extra physical theatre will leave you begging for more.
Warning – you will get wet!
Please note, this
show contains adult material - not suitable for younger audiences!
