Reframing Reynolds

A new exhibition in the House

In the late eighteenth century, the celebrated artist Sir Joshua Reynolds painted many portraits of the Lascelles family. Now, marking 300 years since Reynolds' birth, Harewood is re-examining six of these remarkable portraits to explore the artist's innovative style and role in constructing power and identity in the age of Empire.

The exhibition also includes a specially designed family guide, to help younger visitors learn about Reynolds and inspire them to think positively about portraiture and identity today.

NEWS

Leeds Jazz Festival 2023

Leeds Jazz Festival returns for it’s second year from 25 - 30 May 2023. The event aims to unite and celebrate the musicians, venues, promoters, audiences and organisations who are part of the Leeds Jazz tapestry - whilst showcasing the best of local, national and international music.

The Domino is kicking off the festival in style with new wave dancefloor instrumentalists Snazzback.
The 7-piece embrace their Bristol beginnings to create a sound fusing abstract beats with spiralling improvisation.
Their music is soaked in influences including interlocking West African rhythms, rootsy Brazilian flavours, sprawling soundscapes, deep dubstep basslines and flickering arpeggiators. A collaborative instinct runs through the group, and an eclectic choice of vocalists and MCs keeps their compositions shimmering in unexpected ways.

Snazzback’s electrifying chemistry has wowed audiences at Ronnie Scott’s, festivals such as Glastonbury, Boomtown & Shambala and gained support from BBC radio heavyweights including Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova and Jamie Cullum.

The first wave of tickets are available directly from the Leeds Jazz Festival, head to:

Kicking the week off it’s Halifax in pictures! David Glover is back with the Earliest Images of Halifax; Pictures married with stories and interesting History! Ditch Google and 3 minute TikTok videos. Come and soak up local History the right way, delivered to you by a passionate expert. It’s getting slightly saucy in Red Brick Theatre this Thursday, as ‘The Formidable Lizzie Boone’ bares all in this one woman show that explores the trials and tribulations of modern womanhood, with a nipple tassel or two… iconic right?

Of course! Friday Night Live will be going off as usual in Copper Auditorium again this week. If you enjoy Pop-Punk, raw energy and stunning acoustic playing then make sure you get your £5 ticket in the bag!

The most wholesome family day out is waiting for you this Sunday with the winner of ‘Best Show for Families’ at Buxton Fringe for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, ‘Wind in The Willows’. This show is an artisanal, handcrafted approach to theatre with a style unlike any other.
