This Saturday: 2023 Young Writers' Toolkit

 

 

This is your reminder to book your place at our in-person Young Writers’ Toolkit, on Saturday 25 March, in central Birmingham.

 

BOOKINGS CLOSE TOMORROW (Friday 24 March.)

 

The Toolkit is an essential event for writers aged 14-24 that offers:

 

·     Information on future careers involving writing.

 

·     Advice on how to forge a career as a writer.

 

·     Guidance on the kinds of options that are open to those with skills in and a passion for writing.



 

When: Saturday 25 March, 12:30pm - 4:30pm

Where: Birmingham & Midland Institute, 9 Margaret Street, Birmingham, England, B3 3BS

Price: Tickets cost £15 - £20 with bursaries available

 

 

The Toolkit will take a closer look at:

 

·     How to use your skills and passion for writing, to get paid to do it.

 

·     The careers you can consider if you like writing, including but not limited to, career paths in publishing, journalism, marketing, scriptwriting, libraries, editing and publicity.

 

·     How these different career paths may suit you and your skills.

 

·     The contents of a Creative Writing University course and whether you need to study Creative Writing to be a writer (clue: no!)



·     The different ways in finding inspiration and motivation when your writing reaches a lull.

·     Novelist and Creative Writing Lecturer Charley Barnes

·     Former Birmingham Young Poet Laureate and writer Nyanda Foday

·     TV producer and scriptwriter David Chikwe

·     YouTuber, book reviewer and former book publicist Leena Normington
