The
festival is upon us and within the HLF team there is a lot of
excitement and anticipation - we're looking forward to welcoming
you to the range of superb events that we've got programmed.
First, though, our launch event in partnership with Kirklees Year of Music on
Wednesday, 6-8pm, is going to be a fantastic opener.
You can expect a welcome from the Mayor of Kirklees and an
introduction to this year’s Festival by Michelle Hodgson, Festival
Director. This will be followed by a short film of Chérie
Taylor Battiste’s poem ‘He Remains’ about David Oluwale, set
to music created by Omar Lyefook. Omar will also perform a
live PA of two tracks of his music. Our launch event is kindly
sponsored by Sleigh & Story.
You can still book FREE tickets for the launch event
(Weds 22, 6-8pm) which also include refreshments.
Following our launch,
we've got a range of exciting events happening in the lead-up to
the weekend. Scroll down to see some highlights of what's coming up
over the next few days - the full list can be seen on our website

EVENT: David Baker talks about his new book, in which he
traces the rise of complexity in the cosmos, from the first atoms
to the first life, to humans and the things we have made.
Combining knowledge from chemistry, biology, and physics, with
insights from the social sciences and humanities, A Brief
History of the Last 13.8 Billion Years follows the continuum
of historical change in the cosmos — from the Big Bang, through the
evolution of life, to human history.
Kirklees Year of
Music 2023, Huddersfield Contemporary Music
Festival & HLF present: a free listening and creative
activities workshop with local artist and musician Chris Ruffoni.
Listening to our sonic surroundings is a
powerful way to find moments of connection and calm. This workshop
incorporates mindfulness and sound making to reveal our capacity to
listen. We’ll experiment with creative activities to inspire words
drawn from sound.
Are you working on a
novel, memoir or non-fiction book? Perhaps you are already
published or self-published? Come and share your work in a
welcoming environment with others on their writing journey.
Each writer will be given three minutes of
mic time to read out their work.
The audience will vote for the best
extract read out, and the winner will receive a book voucher.
Would
you like to take part? Send an email to info@huddlitfest.org.uk and
we will add you to the list of performers. The order of the
readings will be drawn at random on the night.
