That Jazz @ Seven
Three great jazz gigs at Seven coming up this week, starting today, Wednesday 15th March, 6-7.15pm,
with Rush Hour Jazz – Ed
Kainiek. Ed is an alumnus of the Leeds Jazz Rock
Orchestra and now a local legend on both Leeds and Manchester jazz
scenes. Old school jazz - enjoy yourself - have a drink and
listen to the music. Accompanied by the Jazz Leeds trio. Pay What You Feel Seven Bar.
Tomorrow, Thursday
16th March, 7pm, a very special JazzLeeds concert with the Elmo Hope Celebration
Quintet. This Quintet led by Claus Raible from Germany and
Herwig Gradischnig from Austria mark what would have been the 100th
birthday of Elmo Hope, American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger,
in the bebop and hard bop genres. £16/
£14.
The third jazz gig of the week is on Sunday
19th March, 1.30-4pm, JazzLeeds – Mangorata,
one of the highlights of the Reset21 Festival in 2021, the band playing
high energy jazz-fusion led by Leeds drummer Miles Pillinger. Doors 1.15pm. £10 full / £8
conc. Kids under 16 free.
Aside from jazz, tonight,
Wednesday 15th March, 8pm, Cafe Scientifique - Does
Colour Exist? Prof Stephen Westland (University of
Leeds) talks on the topic of What is colour? How does it relate to our
perception? He will discuss what colour really is, and why we perceive
it as we do. Hat
donations.
And on Friday 17th
March 7.30pm, another outing for Barber B – A Play of Sorts.
Join Barber B as he recounts tales of how he began his journey into
barbering. Set against the cultural backdrop of ’80s and ’90s
Chapeltown, Leeds, Barber B moves through the characters, opportunities
and obstacles which defined his career. Tickets selling fast, so book
now. £10. Doors 7pm.
Rounding off the week on
Sunday 19th March 7pm, The Sunday Quiz. With supremo quizmaster,
Rog Hunter, test your knowledge in a relaxed atmosphere – a great way
to end the weekend with friends. £5
