Ruby & The Vinyl

It is 1837 and piano mistress Mary Frances Heaton has been arrested for a breach of peace, and committed to Wakefield Pauper Lunatic Asylum after confronting Doncaster’s authorities.

The Unravelling Fantasia of Miss H is a poetic portrayal of a Victorian woman imprisoned by a society intent on control. This new contemporary music and performance piece chronicles Mary’s life-long struggle of telling her story to the outside world, and is based on Mary’s embroidered samplers, which were discovered in the asylum years later.

Stitched-up-theatre’s contemporary music theatre piece is a new composition by soprano Red Gray and Sarah Nicholls with her inside-out piano, touring Yorkshire following a successful run at the Arcola Theatre and Tête à Tête Festival in London.

What happens when you’re falling for someone but don’t share their beliefs? What happens when you’re so sure you’re right you won’t move an inch? Does love stand a chance?

In the heady world of the Romantic Poets, scientific theories and certainties, can lust and love keep two polar opposites together beyond the first night?

Killing The Cat is a new transatlantic collaboration between an Anglo-American writing team and UK and US producers. With book and lyrics by Walking With Dinosaurs writer Warner Brown and music by radical American composer Joshua Schmidt, Killing The Cat is directed by Jenny Eastop and has its world première in London this spring, prior to Off-Broadway.

Rising up to the north from the village of Kemsing, Kemsing Down Nature Reserve boasts excellent panoramic views south towards Sevenoaks. On a clear day you can see as far as Detling to the east, and Leith Hill in Surrey to the west.

The chalk downland here is home to a wide variety of wildflowers – common rock-rose, fairy flax cowslip and several species of orchid can be found here.
On the other side of the ancient cart track (now a public footpath), the western side of the site is a mix of ancient woodland and chalk downland, where kestrels and green woodpeckers are often seen.

Path improvements in the Darent Valley

Over 700m of improvements to pathways in the Darent Valley have been completed this February. Overseen by the Darent Valley Landscape Partnership, a new shared path has been created at Shoreham and a section of path has been resurfaced at Castle Farm. These improvements, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, help to make our countryside more accessible.
