Decompress and chill in the Drawing Room with your
unfinished project or your next crafting adventure. Get help from
others, delve into the inspirational Art Library books and resources.
Start something new, share a skill or simply find a space to get on
with your craft and listen to a great playlist.

Positive Patches with artist Hayley Mills-Styles
Otley Community Hub and Library,
Thursday 9 March, 2pm
Sometimes we feel overwhelmed or anxious by everyday
life. Take some time out to relax and stitch your own positive
message, inspirational quote, or feminist phrase.
Hayley will guide you through the basics of cross stitch
to create your own personal piece of embroidery. All materials and
equipment will be provided, and the workshop is suitable for
beginners or those with some embroidery experience.

Making Faces with artist Lydia Rain.

Explore alternative ways of representing your identity
in the era of selfies, inspired by the life of Elaine
Cooper. Create collage masks to show the world an alternative
face, using art instead of filters with artist Lydia Rain.

Pre-birth Black & White Baby Book Making Workshop
Drawing Room, Leeds Central
Library, Thursday 30 March, 4pm
Make a high contrast book for your new-born, meet other
parents to be and have fun creating in a relaxed and supportive
environment. High contrast images can really engage new-born
babies when their eyesight is still developing, so these can be used
to encourage and support shared reading.

Life and Legacy of artist Elaine Cooper

Local artist, Lydia Rain, invites us to celebrate her
aunt, Elaine Cooper’s life as many of her works on paper are newly
deposited with Leeds Libraries Collections. Artworks, diaries and
ephemera will be looked after and enjoyed by the people of Leeds,
ensuring her legacy lives on.

"It's Very Personal": Sex and Relationships on
the Problem Pages, c. 1960-1990

Professor Tracey Loughran explores approaches to sex and

Dr Edith Pechey, the adventurous life of the first woman doctor in
Yorkshire. This talk tells the story of how a small group

Women in our collections
Today’s debates on
women’s rights are rooted in a long history of activism. Women and
their allies worldwide have fought for gender equality with passion,
imagination and tenacity. Enjoy our online exhibition, created in
reaction to the British Library's exhibition Unfinished Business,
featuring inspirational local women past and present, events that
have shaped the experience of women
in the city of Leeds and items from our special
collections that connect to the wider history of women’s rights. Unfinished Business

we will be celebrating Women's History Month by screening a recent

During the pandemic, Louise was able to oversee the
