AWP's Big Job Is Taken
After a year of turmoil and its best attended conference ever,
the Association of Writers and Writing Programs has named interim
executive director Chloe Schwenke to the job full-time. At
Macmillan, a new horror
imprint, Nightfire, has been formed under the Tom Doherty Associates
banner, while at Follett, five book fair fulfillment centers are slated to be
opened.
In more awards news, Tayari Jones took home the Aspen Words Literary Prize for An American Marriage last night. In Chicago, the Printers Row Lit Fest has returned to the hands of its original owners, and in New York, former baseball pro Lenny Dykstra has sued his onetime New York Mets teammate Ron Darling and his publishers, Macmillan and SMP, over a passage in Darling's new book accusing Dykstra of racist comments. Finally, at Amazon, Jeff Bezos has penned his annual letter to shareholders, which examines, among other things, the growth of third party sellers and Amazon’s place in e- and physical retailing.
