Cleckheaton Writers Group (CWG) meeting took place last night with Alice, Karen, Kathy, Cassie and Pauline in attendance, Sarah, Mandy, Neil and Gemma having passed on their apologies.
The minutes of the last meeting were passed.
WIP updates: I have been working on my romantic supsense novel (and will be rewriting/editing this as part of CampNaNoWriMo this month) and the beginning 'ordinary world' section of my Digital Heroin WIP. Alice has had her 1-2-1 feedback from Golden Egg and she is now acting on it, e.g. the disappearing character that needed to come back and upping the tension. Pauline has not written anything since the last meeting and will be unable to attend CWG for the next 8 weeks due to an upcoming operation. Cassie has not written anything since the last meeting. Kathy has written a couple of scenes that changes the start of her murder story, as she didn't feel what she had originally written was the start, showing Vinnie's ordinary world and introducing a new character.
Feedback sessions: I was the only one who had brought work for feedback so I read a couple of scenes from the romantic suspense WIP. It was well received but the 'police interview scene' needed work and the members kindly helped me with it.
Pauline and Cassie kindly volunteered to be beta readers when I get my romantic suspense WIP rewritten for feedback before I resubmit it to RNA NWS 2019 (deadline August).
CW comps/workshops/events: I informed the members about the FREE Wergle Flomp poetry competition which had a deadline of midnight 1 April USA time. Mandy asked me to let the CWG members know that she has a reading at Wharf Chambers in Leeds as part of the Fictions of Every Kind event on 30 April. Any member who can attend is welcome to. I told the members about a new creative space in Dewsbury set up by Creative Scene called Brigantia. It costs £3 a year to be a member and information can be found on the following website: http://bit.ly/Brigantia. Alice informed members about The Hive in Shipley having a Creative Writing afternoon at 2-4pm on a Wednesday afternoon. The sessions are tutored and drop-in at a cost of £3. The Hive is located under the Kirkgate Centre in Shipley. Cassie told members about the BBC Comedy Scripts Competition that is open for entries now.
The next meeting of the CWG will take place on Monday 15 April 2019 5.30-7pm at Cleckheaton Library, meetings fortnightly thereafter and new members always welcome.
Aww miss the meetings x
