Cleckheaton Writers Group took place on Monday 15 April at Cleckheaton Library with Gemma, Cassie, Kathy and myself in attendance, Sarah, Mandy, Alice, Arline and Pauline having passed on their apologies.
The minutes from the last meeting were passed.
I told members that CWG member Pauline's operation was a success and she hopes to be out of hospital this week.
WIP Updates: I have written several chapters of my current WIP (am at over 10k words for CampNaNoWriMo), editing and planning. Cassie has not written anything. Gemma has undertaken 7 hours of editing. Kathy has added another character to her murder WIP and has been fleshing out her other new character. She has also added more to her Tobias WIP revealing some of the revelations of the plot.
Feedback sessions: Gemma shared the beginning of a new piece she is writing for a Huddersfield Writers Circle competition with the theme of 'secrets.' It will be a 2k words short story and she has come up with a lot of iedeas for the theme. The beginning was intriguing and all members encouraged her to continue with it. I shared several chapters of my romantic suspense WIP which was well received.
CW comps/workshops/events: I reminded everyone about the Fictions of Every Kind event at Wharf Chambers on April 30th that CWG member Mandy will be reading at. Gemma informed members of the Curtis Brown first line competition to win representation, £3k, mentoring and more. Interested writers should send up to 10k words plus a synopsis by midday on 1 August 2019.
The library will be closed for rennovations on 29 April, so due to the Bank Holiday, the next meeting will be Monday 13 May 5.30-7pm where unfortunately I will be unable to attend, so am passing on my apologies now.
