Birmingham Literature Festival September 2024

 Starts 28 September:

Join us as we celebrate the beauty of Britain's landscapes, discover innovative solutions to the waste and climate crises, and examine how colonialism has shaped our relationship with the environment.

Through engaging discussions and a hands-on workshop, these thought-provoking events will explore the fascinating realm of insects, the solace found in our English countryside, and the complex history of our small island.

Poetics of Insects Workshop with Romalyn Ante

In this poetry workshop, we will explore the intricate realm of insects and how they can shed light on our personal and climate crises.

We will journey through our natural and personal landscapes through the lives of insects, from the tough ant to the delicate butterfly, and the persevering beetle.

We will look at some sample poems by Yvonne Reddick, Zaffar Kunial, Fiona Benson, and more to delve into the challenges and adaptations these tiny beings endure and how we can use these in crafting our own poems. We will embark on the worlds of science and art, nurturing a deeper understanding of insect ecology in the face of our changing world, and craft our own resonating verses.
