Cinema on the Square: A day of
outdoor screenings from Leeds Film
|
|
|
|
|
|
30
July / Millennium Square
As
part of the Summer Series,
an annual series of outdoor gigs from world-renowned blockbuster
acts, we’re transforming the Millennium Square into an outdoor
cinema with a lineup of unforgettable films to celebrate music,
movies and the joy of summer; all for just £5 a ticket!
We'll
be starting the day with the hit musical reboot of the beloved
childhood story, Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical, followed
by the 80's coming-of-age summer classic Stand By Me,
starring River Phoenix and Keifer Sutherland. In the evening we'll
be screening Summer of Soul, a hugely inspirational
concert film made with lost footage of the 1969 Harlem Cultural
Festival and featuring performances by Stevie Wonder, Sly and the
Family Stone, Nina Simone and more.
So
join us Sunday 30 July for Cinema on the Square and make your own
unforgettable summer memories watching our handpicked selection of
films on the big screen.

|
|
|
|
Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical
|
|
|
|
|
|
Sunday 30 July /
1:00pm / Millennium Square
|
|
A dazzling new musical adaption
of the nostalgic childhood tale. Matilda is a young
girl gifted with a keen intellect and special
powers that she must use to deal with her crude,
distant family and help free her kind teacher from
their sadistic, child-hating headmistress (played
by an unrecognizable Emma Thompson).
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Sunday 30 July /
3:45pm / Millennium Square
|
|
A landmark of 1980s cinema and the
quintessential coming-of-age film, Stand By Me is
an enduring look at friendship, mortality, and the
adventures of youth. Set on a warm summer’s day in
1950s rural Oregon, four boys head out on a hike in
search of the body of a local missing boy,
determined to become town heroes.

Summer
of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)
|
|
|
|
|
|
Sunday 30 July /
6:00pm / Millennium Square
Over six Sundays during the
summer of 1969 the Harlem Cultural Festival featured world
famous musicians such as Stevie Wonder, Mahalia Jackson, The
Staples Singers, Nina Simone, BB King, Sly and the Family
Stone. Incredibly, this footage was neglected for 50 years
until it was recently restored and returned to audiences by
Questlove. Lose yourself to the unforgettable
soundtrack and be transported back to the summer
of soul in this acclaimed concert film, showing on the big
screen in our open-air cinema.

A groundbreaking circus adaptation of Thomas
Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles from Ockham's Razor,
"Britain's most innovative aerial theatre group"
(Total Theatre).
An ensemble of performers weave together
Hardy's words and the extreme physicality of circus to tell
this tale of power, loss and endurance.
Against a backdrop of shifting projections the
cast wield wooden planks, climb shifting walls and move
through ropes and swathes of linen to evoke the vast
landscapes and interior world of Hardy's Wessex.
This retelling captures the beauty, heartbreak
and yearning of the novel and draws upon the incredible
strength of the circus body to create a Tess as heroic as
Hardy intended.

opens tomorrow.

|
From
design classics to cutting-edge catwalk creations, Beyond the
Little Black Dress deconstructs this iconic
garment and examines the radical power of the colour black in
fashion.
Discover
how the nuances of the colour black have made the little black
dress a contradictory garment, from the well-mannered cocktail
attire of the early 20th century to the leather and latex worn
by members of punk and fetish subcultures.

Incredible.
Exceeded expectations. Western Ireland is so beautiful. Add to that a
small group (van was perfect), great guide, great accommodations, and
no worries (like driving on the “wrong” side on narrow roads) and it
all equals a perfect vacation.

What our guests
have to say…5 bubbles Trip Advisor Review
"Quite simply, utterly perfect.
Wow. Simply, wow! What
an incredible experience. Thank you for making my 40th birthday an event
I’ll cherish forever.
A beautiful little
hotel located on the side of cliff, full of charm, character, history and
some of the most amazing sea views I’ve ever witnessed. An environment that
can only be described as simply stunning, inside and out.
Welcoming, attentive
staff who are only too happy to make the stay the best it possibly can be.
Beautiful rooms and lodges with facilities that that easily justify the
five star rating. Absolutely incredible!
We’ll be back soon (we
didn’t want to leave!). Diolch yn fawr; thank you very much."

de vivre”! Our Festive Breaks are based on a 3 night stay including
Christmas, Twixmas and New Year.
If you can’t make the big events, how about
