Ferry queues and cancelled planes are no fun! Much better to stay home over Easter and enjoy what is on the doorstep at Seven.

Food-wise, from today Friday 8th April from 5pm, until 5pm Sunday10th April, the Little Red Food Truck, creating the best burgers in Leeds, will be resident at Seven. Every burger can also be made vegetarian or vegan. Over Easter weekend Friday 15th April from 5pm, until Sunday 17th April, Spuds & Bro’s Poutine  serve their Canadian delicacy, fries topped with gravy and cheese curds; vegan alternative available.

Events-wise, tonight Friday 8th April,7.30pm, Mewl Music presents Den Miller with Lisa Marie Glover)
During Den's gigs you can expect songs “from wildly comic to deeply poignant”, backed by guitar, keyboard, harmonica, autoharp and, often, the audience. Lisa is a seasoned songwriter who has crafted her art into something very much her own. PWYF in Seven's venue.

On Sunday 10th April, 1.30-4pm, it is JazzLeeds – The Jazz Defenders, a UK quintet formed by pianist George Cooper that came together in 2015, drawn by a mutual love and respect for soul-jazz and classic hard bop. Doors 1.15pm. £10 full / £8 conc. Under 25s £5.

Also, on Sunday 10th & Sunday 17th April, 7pm, the very popular Sunday Quiz, is a great way to end the weekend with friends and family. £5 per team, with prizes.

The return of Seven Live – Cobalt Tales peforming on Wednesday 13th April 6 -7:15 pm.  Powerful vocals, engaging harmonies, melodic bass and acoustic guitars, delivering songs from the heart that stir the soul. In Seven Bar, PWYF.

Also on Wednesday 13th April, 7.30pm, The Discount Comedy Checkout.  Running for over 14 years this Leeds based improv group take audience suggestions to create fast, funny and outrageous comedy scenes before your eyes! £10

JazzLeeds presents Jason Rebello and Tim Garland’s ‘Duology’ on Thursday 14th April 7:30 pm. Tim Garland is one of the most versatile musicians in the UK, highly skilled as an instrumentalist, composer and bandleader; meanwhile Jason Rebello is a celebrated British jazz pianist labelled a “veteran” by critics at 19! £20 full / £18 conc. Under 25s £10.

On Saturday 16th April 8pm, Mik Artistik’s Ego Trip . Mik, Jonny Flockton, & Gregg, return to Seven, and if you've never seen one of Mik's show before, then expect the unexpected! It’s an incredibly daft, joyful, and sometimes poignant affair, as Mik tumbles around the stage, sprinkling the audience with straws, whilst the elegant engine room of Jonny Flockton & Gregg hold down the melodies. Doors 7.30pm £16.

Rounding off Easter weekend, on Sunday 17th April, 1.30-4pm, take your chance to get ahead of the latest trends in jazz from up-and-coming stars of the jazz scene, JazzLeeds -Conservatoire Jazz Collection. These gigs are an opportunity for final year jazz students to practice their immanent final recitals in a friendly public setting. Doors 1.15pm. £10 full / £8 conc. Under 25s £5.

LIFF Presents: Venice winner Happening & The Velvet Queen with music by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis

 

Our next LIFF Presents preview night is on 21 April at Vue in The Light with Happening and The Velvet Queen: book tickets for both films and save 25% off the total price. Winner of the Golden Lion at Venice 2021, Audrey Diwan's Happening is a sensitive and searingly powerful story of a young woman's experience with abortion while it was still illegal in 1960s France.

The Velvet Queen is a mesmerising nature documentary with incredible cinematography of the Tibetan highlands and a gorgeous score by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. The film, from French directors Marie Amiguet and Vincent Munier, tracks two wildlife enthusiasts on the trail of the elusive snow leopard high up in one of the last sanctuaries of the wild world.

Olga – fundraising screening in support of Ukraine

LIFF Presents and INDIs Movie Nights are joining up for a fundraising screening of Olga in support of Ukraine, with proceeds going to the Disasters Emergency Committee. Elie Grappe’s gripping drama is about a Ukrainian gymnast who is forced to leave her country during the Maidan protests in 2014. Olga is screening at the Carriageworks Theatre on 13 April at 7.45pm.

 

 

 

 

Robert Eggers returns with The Northman

From Robert Eggers, director of The Witch and The Lighthouse (both previously screened at LIFF), The Northman is an action-filled epic that follows a young Viking prince on his quest to avenge his father's murder. The star-studded cast includes Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård, Claes Bang, Ethan Hawke, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Björk. Screening from 15 April at most cinemas including National Science & Media Museum.

The Worst Person in the World

The Worst Person in the World in cinemas

There was a terrific audience reaction to our LIFF Presents preview of Joachim Trier's 'instant classic' The Worst Person in the World. We follow Julie through four turbulent years in her early twenties in as she struggles to navigate her love life and career choices. There are chances to see it this month with select screenings at National Science and Media Museum (1–3, 6–8, 10 & 13–14 April), Leeds University Union with Hyde Park Picture House (24-25 April) and Hebden Bridge Picture House (23, 24 & 28 April). 

 

 

 

Leeds University Union: Red Rocket, Small Body and Murina

Hyde Park Picture House's On the Road touring programme brings a selection of acclaimed titles to Leeds University Union over the next month. Red Rocket (10-11 April) is a gleeful character study of an ex-adult film star from Sean Baker (Tangerine, The Florida Project). Laura Samani's captivating debut Small Body (25 April) is a mythic odyssey across the majestic landscapes of 1900s' Italy. Murina (1 May) is an enthralling Croatian 'sunshine noir' from Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović.

The Man Who Invented Motion Pictures

Hebden Bridge Picture House: Paris 13th District, Hive & Local Hero

A selection of new releases and special one-off screenings featured in Hebden Bridge Picture House's April programme. Highlights include Paris 13th District (8, 10 & 14 April), a modern story of love and life, reflecting shifting attitudes towards identity and fidelity featuring a script by Céline Sciamma's (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) and direction from Jacques Audiard (A Prophet). There are also select screenings of Kosovan war drama Hive (9–12 & 14 April) and a one-off screening of Bill Forsyth’s much-loved Local Hero (9 April).

A new Head of Skills and Industry Engagement (apply by 4 May 2022) will help shape and deliver Screen Yorkshire's industry-facing skills and training programmes.
