Northerners:
A History
Sat 02 Apr, 2:00 pm–3:00 pm
Huddersfield Library
Are you a proud Northerner? Have you ever wondered
how the North developed over time and how the North has helped to
shape Britain and the world in unexpected ways?
One of the foremost experts in British regional and
national affairs, Brian Groom talks about his new book Northerners: A History,
from the Ice Age to the Present Day, the definitive
biography of the north of England as told through the lives of its
inhabitants.
In a sweeping narrative, Northerners explores
how the past echoes down the centuries, the north-south divide and
the divisions between northerners, such as the rivalry between
Lancashire and Yorkshire, what northernness means today, and
the crucial role the north can play in Britain’s future.

Do Words: Writing for wellbeing and resilience.
Sun 03 Apr, 11:00 am
Festival Hub (Next to Toyland)
For anyone who loves or wants to get into creative
writing, is looking for a creative mindfulness activity, or would
like to learn how to make a positive impact on their wellbeing
through writing then this event is for you.
Bethan will set small,
attainable and fun writing exercises to encourage you to write
about whatever is on your mind at that present moment.
Everything is down to choice: how deep you go, how much you share
with others and how you interpret the exercises set. There will
also be flexible safety guidelines in place, which will be shared
at the beginning of the session.
Please note: this event will
take place in our Festival Hub on the Piazza; however, as Bethan
has tested positive for covid and is unable to travel, she will
appear via Zoom on a large screen at the Hub to teach the workshop.

forthcoming album “Big Fish' coming out at the end of April on Rodina
Music.
On a few days off between tours with the New
Mastersounds, Joe stopped in Nashville and recorded a set of new
songs inspired by the late great Mose Allison. This short-run of
vinyl also features on the flip-side “Stomp”, a slow bluesy
instrumental funk burner that has a New Orleans swagger about it and
features Joe's band member Gareth Lockrane cutting loose on the
flute.
If you like music by Allen Toussaint, Ramsay Lewis and
Herbie Mann, you'll be feeling this one.
His record will be available on the night, fresh from

Creative Kirklees
Newsletter 29 March 2022
|
Welcome to a week of creativity in Kirklees! It’s wonderful to see so
much going on – from exhibitions to workshops, performances to poetry,
there’s something for everyone.
In
Dewsbury, Creative Scene's BANK Network presents Curiosity until 8
April. The exhibition is from a group of Kirklees artists who came
together over Zoom each week during lockdowns to create a small piece of
art, explore new mediums and experiment with different techniques.
Curiosity is the result of this work, alongside workshops being run by
some of the artists involved.
Huddersfield
Choral Society are back at Huddersfield Town Hall to sing Bach St.John Passion
with Manchester Camerata. Conducted by Greg Batsleer their Spring concert
takes place on Saturday 2 April at 7.30pm.
Have you
heard about the PACE project?
It’s a new initiative for Kirklees designed to help young people access
career opportunities in the creative sector. Participants will be
offered volunteer placements with arts organisations on real projects,
giving them a genuine opportunity to make their mark and gain real world
experience.
Huddersfield Literature
Festival is in full flow and there are still events
going on this week, as well as their Festival Hub in the Huddersfield
Piazza to visit.
Have a
great creative week.
