Hello
As 2018 marks the 100 year anniversary of suffrage, Retreat West Books is publishing
a charity anthology in November to coincide with the 100 Years
March that will follow the same route as the original suffrage
march from the East End of London to Westminster.
I'm working with Rose McGinty, author of Electric Souk, to put the
anthology together and we are now seeking submissions of flash
fictions and short stories to include in it. A huge thank you to
authors Anna Mazzola, Angela Clarke and Angela Readman who have
already donated stories. All profits will go to support Hestia, a
charity working in London to support people in times of crisis. I
hope you'd like to be involved - you can get all of the information here.
Please join me in welcoming Kelly Rebecca and Phil Sobell to the
Retreat West team They are now working with me as social media
interns and will be running lots of free challenges, providing
new prompts and creating lots of opportunities to get writing,
win free books, free comp entries and more. Find out more about it all here.
They have already launched a new Retreat West Instagram page and
you can follow it here: https://www.instagram.com/retreatwest/
I'm very excited to have signed a new author to Retreat West
Books and details of who and what will be coming very soon. The
first signed author, Amanda Huggins, will be at the Northern Short Story Festival in Leeds
on 2nd June where she'll be signing copies of her wonderful
collection, Separated
From the Sea, which is being published on 1st June.
Hot off the press!
On 2nd May we will be holding a launch party for the cli-fi
charity anthology, Nothing
Is As It Was, at Great Expectations in Reading. All
are welcome and some of the authors whose stories are in the book
will be doing readings in the library where Charles Dickens used
to read for audiences. Copies of the anthology will be on sale
and all proceeds are being donated to the climate action charity,
Earth Day Network. See info here and email news@retreatwest..co.uk to let
us know if you'd like to come.
I'm delighted to now be working with The Writer's Workshop as a
freelance editor. They were integral to my development as a new
writer with their brilliant writing festivals in York and their
online self-editing course, so it's a real honour for me to be
joining their team. This means I'm no longer offering editing
services directly through the Retreat West website, as there's
only so much I can take on! So the focus at Retreat West is now
the courses and competitions, as well as
publishing stories through Retreat West Books.
The Creating Complex Characters Retreat,
which is happening next month in Devon, was sold out but sadly
one of the writers has had to cancel so her room is up for grabs
again. We'll be doing in-depth character work using psychology,
writing exercises and examples so that you know your characters
inside out and your readers will never forget them. You'll also
get an extract of your work reviewed in a 1-1 with me. Email me to nab that final room at a
discounted rate.
Happy writing,
Amanda x
