Weather warning
still in place
With the whole of
Kirklees under a Met Office weather warning this weekend, our gritting
team have been rather busy. All priority routes were gritted several
times yesterday and we hand gritted Dewsbury and Huddersfield town centre
pavements. We kept the gritters out most of Saturday evening as the snow
came down.
Today
(Sunday) we gritted and ploughed from 5am and kept the crews out over
higher ground for a few hours longer. We're out again from 4pm, it takes
a few hours to get round the whole route and we'll keep a night patrol
out.
The
Met Office have put us under a yellow warning for snow and ice until
midnight tonight and then it's looking to be ice tomorrow, but click
below for the latest forecast.

Road closures
We've had to close the
A635, A6024 and A640 and are working hard to re-open them as soon as
possible. Check on our website
before you set off if you need to drive one of those routes.

Stay safe
Snow
can still settle on a gritted road, so please bear that in mind when
you're out and about. Plan around routes that are gritted. You can
search routes here and
get our travel tips here.
Just before the snow came we got round to almost every grit
bin and refilled it, so if you know where your nearest one is, and you
are able, please try and put some grit down later today on side roads and
pavements ahead of the freeze overnight.
We hear a lot about good neighbours during spells of bad
weather, it's always nice to hear when people are checking on neighbours,
and helping to clear local roads.

A virtual ride on
a gritter
We've sent an extra pair of
hands out on one of the gritters today, to share live with our twitter
followers what it's like being out on a gritter. Follow his
journey.
We've also got a good video
to show how the wind is causing drifting.
