Jazz It Up @ Seven

Saturday 20 January, 7.30pm, Spud Theatre presents Carmilla, an adaptation of Sheridan Le Fanu’s classic 19thC vampire story. Carmilla, the first full length vampire novel in the English language, has hugely influenced the vampire genre from Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula, to James Corden’s 2009 film, Lesbian Vampire Killers. £10 / £8 conc.

The Screen Seven movie on Monday 22 January 8pm, is The Fencer. A young man, Endel, arrives in Estonia, in the early 1950s. Having left Leningrad to escape the secret police, he finds work as a teacher and founds a sports club for his students. When some show promise and skill, they want to participate in a national fencing tournament in Leningrad. Endel must make a choice: risk everything to take the children to Leningrad or put his safety first and disappoint them. £6 on the door.

Voodoo Room – A Night of Hendrix & Cream returns to Seven on Thursday 26 January, 8pm. An exciting classic Power Trio, Voodoo Room features some of the UK’s finest musicians with favourite “Hendrix” and “Cream” tunes, performed with the energy and virtuosity that is at the heart of this incredible music. £10 adv / £12 otd.

On Friday 26 January, 7.30pm Conscious Theatre presents a whirlwind journey through the life of Joan Littlewood, one of the 20th century’s greatest theatrical visionaries, Joan, Babs & Shelagh Too – The Joan Littlewood Story. Unquestionably brilliant, undoubtedly maverick, undeniably rude, Joan, Babs & Shelagh Too chronicles the life of a fascinating character ahead of her time. £10  /£8 conc.

On Saturday 27 January, 8pm, Encore brings you French chansons, some familiar, some new, from the amazing poetic penmanship of Brel, Moustaki, Brassens, Piaf etc and new favourite, Juliette Nourredine. Sung in French, interwoven with explanations and stories about the artists, these songs have all the power to transport and touch us to the core. £10 / £8 conc.

Rounding off the weekend on Sunday 28 January 1.30-4pm, JazzLeeds presents Stuart MacDonald and Dennis Rollins a pairing of two of our club favourites: MacDonald on saxes and Rollins on trombone. These two fine musicians play jazz that is melodic and mellow, or exciting and funky, and always hugely enjoyable. £10 /£8 conc.

Tickets for most events are found at  www.ticketsource.co.uk/sevenleeds/events Where not sold out, tickets are always available on the door.

Every £ spent at Seven helps support high quality arts in a local setting. We look forward to seeing you at Seven very soon.
