Sir David Attenborough in Conversation with Chris Watson: Live Screening from the BL

The 2017 Longplayer Conversation brings together long-time collaborators, naturalist and broadcaster, Sir David Attenborough, and sound recordist, Chris Watson. Join us for what promises to be a fascinating conversation informed by their shared interests and experiences as sound recordists in the natural world.

Edgerton - Home to a Victorian Elite: local history lunchtime talk

Mr Punch's Cabinet of Curiosity

With its roots in the sideshows of the old traveling fairs and the touring tent shows of oddities, the cabinet will be displaying a magical, wonderful and sometimes gruesome selection of displays for your entertainment. 
For those guests with a strong constitution you will be offered a chance to interact with one final, very special exhibit, but you do so at entirely your own risk…

Robinson Crusoe: A multisensory storytelling

An immersive retelling of the classic adventure story suitable for all ages, including those living with dementia. Afterwards librarians will be on hand to discuss our Books on Prescription Dementia Collection.

This event is part of Dementia Friendly Saturday, taking place in various venues across Huddersfield. The aim is to raise awareness of dementia whilst showcasing the help and support on offer for people living with the  condition, their carers and families, as well as those concerned about early signs of dementia.


Create a magical diary

Use invisible ink and a variety of techniques to create a magical diary to take home with you. Attendance for this full day session will gain you a Discover level Arts Award. This session is for people aged 16 and over.

The Unquiet Dead: Chilling Tales at Bagshaw Museum

Join us after hours in Batley’s Bagshaw Museum, if you dare...
With two chilling tales from the golden age of ghost stories including M.R. James’s grisly account of black magic in the Midlands Lost Hearts and Edith Nesbit’s haunting saga of thwarted love The Shadow. Performed by storyteller Matthew Bellwood, in the atmospheric surroundings of the museum by candlelight.
