Not sure what to do this weekend apart from Christmas shopping? Here are a few ideas for those of my followers who live in or near to Leeds, London and New York:
WIN a Burns Night
supper, get two meals for the price of one and don't miss these vegan
burgers...
|
|
|
|
|
|
It's mere weeks away, but have you got plans for New Year's Eve?
If not, check out our guide – it now has even more ideas, with everything
from elaborate tasting menus to bottomless supper clubs and all-night
parties, so whatever you fancy this year, there's guaranteed to be
something for you.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
To celebrate the life and work of Robert Burns, Ox Club is
serving a special supper – and we're giving you the chance to win 4
tickets with a £50 bar tab.
|
|
|
This week, you can get 2-4-1 mains at Victoria Gate Casino, so
whether you're watching the match, playing on the poker tables or getting
a cocktail, come hungry!
|
|
Putting together a list of the city's best bars is no easy feat – how
can you possibly narrow down the options? But we have. In fact, just 15
bars made it onto our list. From craft beer to cocktails, traditional
pubs to secret hideaways, they all have one thing in common – they're
exceptionally good.
|
|
|
|
If you want to see the city's best chefs at the top of their game,
you need to try their tasting menus. Always creative, often unusual and
undoubtedly beautifully presented, they are simply not to be
missed.
|
|
|
The latest addition to Leeds is a new eatery in Kirkgate Market
that sources all its ingredients from its neighbours. OWT is the work of
two talented chefs who wanted to create a community cafe where you can
eat great food made with fresh locally-sourced produce.
|
|
|
|
That's it. The first snow of the year is coming this weekend, so
it's time to snuggle up in front of a roaring fire, but you don't have to
do it at home. You'll find all manner of cosy escapes in Yorkshire, so
you can go for a brisk walk with stunning views, before hunkering down in
your own country pad.

Why not
give a magical gift this Christmas?
|
|
|
|
|
There's
just a fortnight left until Christmas
and rehearsals are underway for what is
set to be the most magical theatrical
experience of 2019. As a festive treat,
we invite you to take a sneak peek
into a fairytale world between night
and day.
A
Princess is stolen, a Prince must
rescue her, but nothing is quite as it
seems. The Magic Flute
is an awe-inspiring visual treat full
of miraculous music, colourful costumes
and jaw-dropping projections. This
January, step into an enchanting
fairytale adventure of kings, queens,
dreams and some of Mozart's most
beautiful music.
Take
a peek at our trailer
(and turn on the sound to hear an
excerpt from the Queen of the Night's
aria!). Could this be the gift idea
you've been waiting for?

We've
got lots to tell you...
Here at imagine
if we've had a very busy year - taking on new
staff, fundraising for our work, developing new projects, even
travelling the world...
|
|
|
We would
like to raise awareness of our Arts Saves Lives scheme
that will be launching in the New Year.
We are a charity, however we are not core funded which
means we don't get regular funding. We work tirelessly to raise
funds to make the world a better place through the arts and every
single penny counts!
|
|
So why don't
you buy one less pint at the works Christmas do and donate that
fiver to us so we can continue working with the most marginalised
people in society?
In the New Year we will be developing our Arts Saves Lives scheme
but for now, please help us change people's lives for the better
and donate us that fiver on our donation page.

We are very
pleased to announce our new play Jadek - which
explores identity, culture and migration, seen through the
relationship between a blind, Polish Grandfather and his English
Granddaughter.
Grandad found a home in Yorkshire in 1945 after spending six years
fighting and surviving World War 2. He likes a whisky and hates the
ventilation in his front room. Every morning he opens his eyes and a
sorrowful "bloody hell" escapes his lips as he realises
he's still blind. Chesca drinks way too much beer and has moved
house a mere 28 times. As a modern-day performance artist, Chesca
feels repressed by the world around her and pissed off at all the
men in it. Chesca found a home at her Grandad's house after
spending what felt like most of her life at war.
Jadek is
currently going through a research and development stage kindly
supported by Square Chapel, CAST and Carriageworks Theatre. We are so
excited to be working on Jadek
with the following artists: Iain Bloomfield (Director), Chi-San Howard (Movement
Director), Mark Catley (Dramaturg) Lee Affen (Sound Designer) and Rosie
Clark (Producer). Over the past few
months, writer Francesca Joy has been working with Royal National Institute of the Blind,
Leeds Polish Catholic Centre and
Royal British Legion and Combat Stress. She
has also been assisted by psychologists who specialise in PTSD,
Sheffield Theatre's Agent for Change Ben Wilson,
and people from the wonderful NHS.
Jadek will
be touring in Autumn 2019 so keep checking our website, Twitter and Facebook for more updates!

Congrats Tamsin!
Drum roll please...
After a long, agonising process we are so happy to let you all
know we've secured £30,000 from The Fore to hire a Community Director of
Prisons on a part time, permanent basis. This is
a game changer for imagine if, to have someone solely project
managing our arts in prison work is going to be transformational
for us and for the people we work with.
We are excited to let you know that our very own Tamsin
Cook was offered the role and will be with us for the next 2
years as Community
Director (Prisons). Tamsin's been with us for 18
month's already and is an integral part of the team, supporting
Francesca Joy with developing and sustaining our life
changing theatre in prison work.
After 5 years of developing arts in prisons across the UK, it's
now time for Chesca to pass the baton over to Tamsin, she's going
to smash it!

Over the
summer Chesca travelled to the west coast of America to expand her
research in the Criminal Justice System. She explored how the arts
were being used to rehabilitate offenders in prisons and
ex-offenders in the community across California. Chesca was funded
by Arts Council England's Artist International
Development Fund.
During this research trip she worked with the following incredible
companies: The Actor's Gang (LA), Red Ladder (San Jose) Theatre Workers Project (LA)
and Fringe Benefits (LA), as
well as working across a total of 9 prisons and within the surrounding
communities.
To find out more about Chesca's trip to America check out her our
photos on the imagine
if Facebook page and look out for a follow-up blog
post!

Chesca was interviewed Carpool Karaoke style about
imagine if and the work she does utilising the arts for social change
- watch it here!

Short Story Selection
Immortality
has been sought after by those in power for as long as kingdoms have existed,
but have always come at a cost.
But what about a
different form of immortality, one where you’re able to create a new you?
If you’re able to
create, then you should be able to edit or alter your memories. The question
then becomes, how much of yourself do you leave?
Egan explores
these questions deeply by way of very intriguing characters.

Vampiric Tale
The
streets of a big city can be dangerous at night, especially when the
supernatural come out to feed. We follow a group of vampires living in
run-down houses outside of central Baltimore.
Their minds have
eroded and they refer to themselves and their dead victims both as meat. The
living things they hunt are known as flesh. They seem to be driven by both
the thirst and their fading human traits. When one of their group does not
return from a hunt, tempers flare and empty threats are made, but none of them
seem to care all that much. They simply feel as if they should. The diverse
characters add life to the story that the vampires have lost.
