The
full programme has been announced for Make it Harewood, our
weekend-long festival with Hole & Corner that
celebrates all things craft!
Getting creative and
discovering new skills are great ways to nurture
wellbeing, and this relaxed, hands-on weekend in the
beautiful surroundings of Harewood will definitely get everyone
smiling. With a barbecue, bar, makers' market and a DJ alongside
free demos and workshops, Make it Harewood will open up
the world of craft so the whole family can get stuck in.

You're never too young or too old
to explore craft! These workshops and demonstrations are for all
ages (and don't forget to stop by the blacksmithing station to
watch, even if the kids are a bit young to wield hammers!).

Model
Making with Aardman Studio
Sunday
only at 11:30am, 1:30pm, 3:30pm / 1 hour / £15
Aardman, the award-winning studio
behind Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, will show you how
to craft your very own model of one of their beloved characters,
with the guidance of expert model maker Jim Parkyn.

Do Nothing Machine Build with Marvellous Mechanica

Nik Ramage, Jim Bond and Martin
Smith return to Harewood with an exciting new community project
specially commissioned for the Make it Harewood festival. With the
help of festival visitors of all ages, they will create a
large Do Nothing Machine over the course of the weekend.

Glassblowing
demos with E+M Glass

11am-5pm on the hour / Free
Watch a fascinating demonstration
of the glassblowing art with E&M Glass, a family run, artisan
blown glass studio who make all sorts of different glass, working
with clients around the globe including Fortnum & Mason and
Game of Thrones.

to Pottery – Hand Building

Have a go at hand building in
this introductory session for absolute beginners. Learn the basics
of clay manipulation and try your hand at making a simple coil pot.

Woodcarving
Tasters with Robin Wood
Sat + Sun
drop-in 11am-1pm, 2-5pm / Free
Robin Wood is passionate about
traditional woodwork, about the value of people working with their
hands and sharing the joy of these things with others. Have a
go at wood carving in a short taster session with Robin. No
experience needed.
Age 8+, under 16s must be

Painting +
Drawing Workshop with Lucy Jagger
Sat + Sun
12-2pm, 3-5pm / £35
This session will encourage you
to take inspiration from your surroundings, considering
composition, use of colour and the materiality of paint. We will be
looking at the Sunflower as a global symbol of resistance, unity
and hope and you'll make 3 drawings and 1 painting.

for these workshops, which will introduce you to fascinating
heritage and contemporary crafts.

Wire
Flowers with Helaina Sharpley
Sun only,
11am-1.30pm, 2.30-5pm / £40
Helaina is a wirework artist,
creating intricate and elegant 3D wirework pieces that cross the
boundaries between drawing and sculpture. Learn how to hand shape
and form wire to create a variety of types of flowers and
foliage, taking home a small bouquet of wire flowers.

Three
Legged Stool Making with Freya Whamond
Sat + Sun
12-4pm / £85
Build a 3 legged stool using
solid oak hardwood. Learn about traditional methods of joinery
(wedged mortise and tenons) and gain an understanding of how the
natural grain structures are used to create a strong joint and a
piece of furniture that will last a lifetime. Students will work
with hand tools, adding individual elements to take something
truly unique home.

book alongside an accompanying adult)

Crochet
with Kate Brittain
Introduction
to Crochet – Sat + Sun 12-1pm, 2-3pm / £15
Granny Squares – Sat + Sun 4-5pm / £15
Kate has knitted from a young
age, citing her long commutes on public transport as a time to hone
her skills. After studying fashion design, Kate went on to
work with Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Victoria Beckham and
Rick Owens. Absolute beginners can learn the basics with
Introduction to Crochet, and those with some skills can learn the
versatile, thrifty Granny Square technique.

Blacksmithing
with Leszek Sikoń
Sat + Sun
11am-5pm on the hour / £50
You will create a simple leaf
using basic blacksmithing techniques in this 45 minute workshop,
taught by Leszek himself. This is a hands-on workshop which takes
place outdoors, so please wear appropriate clothing, and clothes
that you don’t mind getting dirty.
Age 18+, but spectators welcome!

Jubilee Weekend

Where better to spend the long
weekend than Harewood, a Royal Household for 30 years and this
year, hosting the Great
British Food Festival!
We're also showing a brand new
display, Queen
Elizabeth: Celebrating 70 Years in the Steward's
Room; running a fun biscuit
decorating activity for children in the Pastry
Room; and for a royal treat, book a Jubilee Afternoon Tea in the
Terrace Tearoom.

The Great British Food Festival
is returning to Harewood this year and the recipe for the weekend?
Well, take a good helping of local and artisan producers, a big
serving of tasty hot food vendors, add a dash of bars, a sprinkling
of children’s activities, a dollop of top chef demos, stir in some
competitions, with lashings of excellent live music, and mix
together to make a fabulous foodie family day out!

To celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee,
enjoy a very special afternoon tea menu created by Harewood Food
and Drink Project, inspired by the Queen’s Coronation State
Banquet, at which the 7th Earl and Countess of Harewood were
guests in 1953.
