Chocolate please!
Some people steer clear of adding chocolate to their breakfasts but that’s
not me and if it’s not you either, get ready for to cheer! A new Nutella
cafe, branching off of its Chicago location, is coming to the city! 🍫☕️😁
Some people take
meditation classes, guided yoga or fit therapy into their schedule when
they’re met with frustration, others smash things with a bat! In this unique
'Rage
Rooms', items like plates and old electronics are free game for bashing.
Take your swing! 🤪🔨😆
His recent
collaboration with PnB Rock and remix of Drake's God's plan are just two
reasons 15-year-old musical artist Leeky
Bandz is getting tons of recognition. Learn more about his upcoming music
and why he's a great representation of NYC's Hip Hop scene. 🎶🎧😍
Let's talk current
events! Solo artist Rachel Monosov is having a showcase this week at Catina
Tabacaru Gallery titled, "Blind
Leader". It will focus on the social tundra of today, the border
tension and political circumstances. Check out the website if you're
interested in learning more about tickets and the pieces on display. 📰🎨📷
A new short story
is up for grabs this week, and it's tapping into psychology. In James
Patrick Kelly's, "Crazy Me", the interior landscape of feelings
and thoughts become the source of tension and action. Kelly manages to
provide the elements of a great story by focusing on the conflicts of anxiety
and desire. 📚👓😯

Injustice Through Art
Coming
this week to the Catinca Tabacaru Gallery is a solo show by artist Rachel
Monosov, her second solo show at the gallery. Titled The Blind Leader, the
pieces exhibited were created to limit one physically, and manipulate them
mentally. These works comment on many social injustices we are currently
experiencing.
The
exhibition invites the viewers in, making them experience the art first hand
to obtain a better understanding of the artist’s message. Her piece titled
Waiting Room is a large industrial fence, reminiscent of the centers where
families are being separated at the border. He piece
Fingerprint builds
on this, exploring the inherent assumption of criminality of the individual
when fingerprints are taken at the border. Monosov creates objects that
reflect the choreographing of people to reflect the blind power the system
has over its subjects. Forcing one to directly interact with its message, the
exhibition is a much needed presentation of social injustices.

Musician Spotlight
Rapper
Leaky Bandz (also known as Lil Italy) hails from New York’s Lower East Side and
is coming up quick. No official album or mixtape out, he relies solely on
SoundCloud and YouTube to produce his hype.
To top it all off,
Leeky Bandz is only 15 years old. Already collaborating with popular artists
like PnB Rock, his music can range from trap bangers to more upbeat tunes.
His remix of Drake’s God’s Plan is one of his more lighthearted sounds.
His popularity
stems from his ability to embody just about every form of New York hip-hop.
Although he did not make this year's XXL Freshman list, he was a favorite and
is still in the running for next year. In the meantime, check out his rising
career and keep an ear out for more of his music dropping soon.

Book Review
James
Patrick Kelly creates a story based completely on the building of his
characters. He uses their motivations, fears, and desires to drive the plot
along. In “Crazy Me,” Dr. Ken Takumi is two separate characters, allowing
Kelly to build a whole story through the voice of one person. Ken’s fears and
anxieties seem to have manifested themselves into a being that looks like him
in every way. However, this Crazy Me, as he calls him, actually helps Ken to
run his life. He runs Ken’s Facebook page, gives him stock advice and keeps
him healthy. Crazy Me actually lives in Ken’s garage.
It seems as if Ken
has tried to explain his situation before, but to no avail, and now accepts
this as part of his life. He starts to rely on Crazy Me, using him to keep
his life in check. When Ken begins dating one of his assistants, she jokingly
says that Crazy Me is funnier, but that Ken is sexier. Kelly delves deep into
the human subconscious by being able to completely separate Ken’s varying
emotions and drives the story using on Ken as his tool.
