Ilkley Literature Festival, 28 September - 14 October 2018

Including details of a cake baking competition, here is the latest information on the Ilkeley Literature Festival 2018:

Fantastic Events for Families at Ilkley Literature Festival

Headlined by Jacqueline Wilson and Horrible Histories creator Terry Deary our children's festival is back, and better than ever!

Children aged 3 and up will love Story Bees Sessions, the hilarious Baby's First Bank Heist, making their own polar bear puppet-friends with
Lily and the Polar Bears and tutti frutti's magical new show The Snow Queen.

The whole family can get creative making their own Aardman Animation models (choose between Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and old favourite Morph!) and Minecraft fans can learn how to make characters inspired by favourite books.

Sibéal Pounder returns to the Festival to share the latest instalment in the spellbinding Witch Wars series and Will Mabbitt introduces the ghoulishly funny Embassy of the Dead.

Events for Young People

Melvyn Burgess returns to the Festival with his latest tale of magic and myth, The Lost Witch, leading American author Jewell Parker Rhodes is joined by UK based Muhammad Khan to talk about tackling difficult and important issues through fiction and Guardian journalist Nikesh Shukla talks about his gripping first book for Young People Run Riot.

CBBC and Radio 1 presenter Katie Thistleton will be here to offer advice on life's tough issues, taking on questions from real teens.

WordsFest is back with laid-back workshops on spoken word, song writing and graffiti, plus Carnegie Medal winning author Kevin Brooks will talk about his latest book. And our Make a Newspaper in a Day and Press Pack sessions offer the chance to cover Festival events like a real journalist.

Enter our Cake Decorating Competition

To celebrate the start of Ilkley Literature Festival 2018 we are combining our two favourite things – Books and Cakes!
Inspired by Nadiya Hussain’s new book Bake Me A Celebration Story we are inviting children and families (no professional bakers please!) to decorate a cake inspired by a favourite children’s book for our very own mini Bake Off competition at the Kings Hall before Nadiya's own event on Thursday 20 September.
Nigel Walsh (Chair of the Ilkley Literature Festival board) and experts from Bettys' cake decorating department will be judging and they want to see your most creative and beautifully decorated cakes, inspired by anything from Jacqueline Wilson and Horrible Histories to Harry Potter and Peter Rabbit.
