Robert White wowed the judges and viewers alike with his fast-paced comedy routines when he made the finals on this year's Britain’s Got Talent. He is now set to bring all that fun you saw on the TV live across the country as he announces his debut UK tour: The Tank Top Tour. With a suitcase full of his trademark vests, Robert will be travelling the UK with his unique, musical stand-up to 31 venues including Huddersfield Town Hall! New and familiar faces return to perform alongside the award-winning Orchestra of Opera North. Garry Walker begins the proceedings, as well as leading us in our Christmas Concert at Dewsbury Town Hall later this year. A world premiere sees former Music Director Richard Farnes conduct Will Todd’s Songs of Love and Battle. Plus we welcome back festive favourite The Grufallo's Child and The Highway Rat! The original Sing-a-long-a is back and for the first time in Cleckheaton! For those of you not yet converted, Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music is a screening of the classic Julie Andrews film musical in glorious, full-screen Technicolor, complete with lyric subtitles so that the whole audience can sing along.
The evening begins with your host leading a vocal warm-up, judging the fancy dress competition and teaching you how to use your items in your free interactive props bag. Join hundred of other nuns, Julie Andrews look-alikes, Von Trapp children etc as they boo the Nazis, hiss at the baroness and sing their hearts out during the songs! Tickets £16 and are now on sale

Mischief Makers: Summer Reading Challenge

MMakersA4The Summer Reading Challenge is the UK's biggest reading event for children in libraries, with thousands of families taking part all over the country.
Get your children to sign up at your local library from Saturday July 14th. All they need to do is read six books of their own choice to complete the Challenge whilst picking up awards along the way.

Reluctant Readers

ReluctantReaderDo you know a young reluctant reader? Have you ever wondered why they don't seem to love the written word? Maybe they've been told they are dyslexic or have a reading impairment.
Kirklees Libraries have a very special young person who - herself - learned to read through 'The Beano' and is now keen to share her story with others.
Join this inspiring teenager and her parent to find out how you, too, can learn to love reading a bit more. The sessions are suitable for adults and their children aged seven years and over who a bit reluctant about reading.
The sessions take place at Huddersfield Library on Friday July 27th (10.00 - 11.30am) and Dewsbury Library on Tuesday July 31st (11.00 - 12.30pm). Free places are available by booking on our Ticketsource page at : https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/kirkleeslibraries

Catching up on bins after the strike

Like you, we want to make sure that grey bins that were not collected because of the strike are emptied as quickly as possible. If you have a HD, HX or WF4 postcode please put your grey bin out on the day we are due to collect – even if green is due. For other WF, BD postcodes, we will be collecting bins as normal from Tuesday 10 July.

Following the recent grass fires and the expectation of further hot weather, we have brought into force a public space protection order (PSPO) which bans fires, fireworks, sky lanterns and BBQs in council and national trust owned parks and open spaces, including Castle Hill.
