Hard Times @ Seven


It's a music-filled week at Seven, starting tomorrow, Wednesday 11th March 6-7.15pm with a very special Rush Hour Jazz - Aimee Fisk and Brendan Duffy. Aimee now studies at the Royal Academy of Music and Brendan Duffy, one time leader of LYJRO, is a Leeds sax playing legend. With the JazzLeeds Trio. Seven Bar. Pay What You Feel. Organised by JazzLeeds.

 Also, Wednesday 11th  March, 7.30pmCafe Economique – Beyond Net Zero: What Wartime Britain Can Teach Us About Rapid Social-Ecological Transition.The talk explores why traditional “net zero” strategies are failing and argues for a rapid transition to a sufficiency economy – one that guarantees a decent standard of living for all while setting limits on excessive production and consumption. Seven Venue. £6.

On Thursday 12th March, 7.30pm, on the way to being sold out, is JazzLeeds – “The Pocket Ellington” featuring Alan Barnes and Tony Kofi. Born out of a love of the music of the Duke, The Pocket Ellington manages what ought to be impossible. But with Alan Barnes, Tony Kofi, Simon Finch, Alex Webb and David Lalljee on hand, anything is possible. Seven Venue. £20/10 (full time students) in advance, £22 on the door (if available). Doors 7pm. Organised by JazzLeeds.

Gordon Chapman-Fox’s  Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan  project on Friday 13th March (shows at 4pm & 8pm) sees a bold visual aesthetic and striking retro-futuristic audio identity seamlessly melded together into one evocative musical package. Seven Venue. £15.50. Waiting List for tickets. Plus Vinyl Whistle DJs will be spinning tunes before each show and in between. Seven Bar.

On Saturday 14th March, 4-6pm, Spring Sessions – Hard Times Orchestra. Jacqui Wicks sings, Richard Ormrod (Schwa, Panjumby, A Dread Supreme) plays lots of useful instruments, and Jonny Flockton (Mik Artistik’s Ego Trip) will sit quietly with in a corner whilst his banjo gently weeps. A class act. Seven Bar. Pay What You Feel. Organised by Mewl Music.

On Sunday 15th March, 1.30-4pm, JazzLeeds – QOW Trio a unique multi-generational trio featuring young firebrand saxophonist, Riley Stone Lonergan, British Jazz legend, Spike Wells on drums, and multi-genre bassist and bandleader Eddie Myer, who got together through their mutual love of Sonny Rollins’ classic piano-less trios of the 1950s. £12 /£10 conc in advance  /£12 on the door. Doors 1pm.

 At 7.30pm also on Sunday 15th March, the Seven Quiz. This and every Sunday, test your knowledge in a relaxed atmosphere – a great way to unwind with friends and family. Seven Bar. £5 per team. With prizes.
