Affordable family activities, free VR cinema, autism friendly screenings and special guests at LYFF 2026.

Leeds Young Film Festival (LYFF) is an annual celebration of cinema and film for children and families. Alongside screenings, LYFF offers filmmaking workshops for people aged 8-13, VR experiences and hands-on filmmaking activities to inspire the next generation of storytellers and creatives.

Taking place from 28 March - 19 April, LYFF welcomes all families, with affordable films and activities so every young person can get involved.

LYFF CINE-TAKEOVERS

Swap screen time for big screen adventures at our LYFF Cine-Takeovers. Family film tickets are available from £3 and also include a red carpet experience, a free, designable tote bag and creative activities with special guests: stuntman Nathan Geering and dancer Holly Gibbs.

Taking place at Pictureville Cinema from 28-29 March and Hyde Park Picture House from 4-5 April.


LYFF MOVIE CLUB

Movie Club 2026 is a fun, hands-on filmmaking experience for kids aged 8+. Whether they love making videos for TikTok or Youtube (or just watching them) Movie Club helps children to level up their skills and bring their ideas to life. No experience needed!

Created in collaboration with Screen Yorkshire, Movie Club workshops cover directing, camera tricks, animation, and costume & SFX makeup and include short film screenings too.


Workshops include:

Camera Skills: From Set to Phone
Learn pro camera basics and how to create great content on your phone.

Character FX: Faces to Fabrics
Use makeup and prosthetics to transform characters for film.

Stop-Motion Skills & Tricks
Create your own animated monster scene inspired by sea myths.


VR CINEMA

Our free, family-friendly VR Cinema is all about exploring what’s possible with new technology and helping to spark big imaginations.

Running at Pictureville Cinema from 28-31 March and Leeds City Museum from 14-19 April. The VR cinema is suitable for ages 7+.
