This Black
History Month join our Global Majority writers’
collective Identity for an
evening of poetry and storytelling. Identity Live is a showcase of
the eclectic range of talent in our city – you can expect to hear
from poets, spoken word aficionados and fiction writers.
The theme for
this event is Catharsis. Alongside the performances there’ll
be time to network and learn more about Commonword’s creative
opportunities.
This free event is on Thursday 24th October,
6-8pm at the gorgeous House of Books of Friends. Refreshments
provided.
Join our writing
collective! We’re looking for Black, Asian and Middle-Eastern
writers based in Manchester to join us at our weekly meet-up ๐ค๐ผ Share your wip,
whether it be fiction, spoken word, poetry or memoir. The
group meets every Wednesday from 6.30pm - 8.30pm, to share and
discuss our creative writing, and to learn about current
opportunities.
How can artists contribute to tackling the
environmental crisis? Hear from inspired artist Maya
Chowdhry, as she takes us through her creative
odyssey from reluctant teen to pioneering, seed-planting, eco-music
cultivating international poet ๐ฑ A must for all those wanting to write us into a
greener world.

most inspirational contemporary poets, Imtiaz Dharker
performing poems from her fascinating new collection
Shadow Reader. The poems acknowledge wilful erasures,
exclusions and places of sanctuary. Imtiaz is supported
by the brilliant Romalyn Ante with her stunning second
collection AGIMAT
Cabaret for
Freedom with The Untold Orchestra, Sukina Noor & Young
Identity: An evening
celebrating legendary poet and musician Gil Scott-Heron.
Enjoy the sublime vocals of Yemi Bolatiwa supported by a
string quartet from the Untold Orchestra, soul nourishing
poetry from spoken word artist Sukina Noor, and new
work created especially for the occasion by Young Identity.
