Still from A Real Pain

The full LIFF 2024 line-up is now live on leedsfilm.com, including 104 feature films plus 143 short films in 22 programmes. We have launched the new main programme section Constellation for exciting previews and new discoveries. We have expanded Fanomenon, the home at LIFF for genres like sci-fi, dark comedy and horror, including new competitions and retrospective The Weird of Oz

We have also expanded our LIFF SHORTS section, which is now like a festival within the festival, with more chances to see the competition programmes. Our spotlights this year focus on legendary Indian film actress Smita Patil, with five films rarely screened in the UK, and Leeds artist and filmmaker Stuart Croft, with a season of films that inspired his work, from Singin’ in the Rain to Le Samouraï.

BREAK-EVEN

Fanny Fougerat Cedre Blanc Extra Old

Fanny Fougerat is a fourth generation distiller. Her family had been selling to the big houses that dominate Cognac, but she has decided to redefine the terms. The current release of Cedre Blanc is from 2 barrels only. The Iris Poivre from 12 barrels and the Petit Cigue from 15 barrels, but every barrel is bottled on its own; each release has variation based on the life of each barrel. These are truly unique eaux-de-vies. Fanny Fougerat is to Cognac what Reisetbauer is to Gin. What Grower Producer is to Champagne.
Nose: Initial scents offer sweet notes of delectable dark fruits. Beneath the surface, an oak essence lingers as a result of its time spent aging in old oak.
Palate: Old Cognac essence is offered through notes of old oak furniture, leather and rolling tobacco. Beautifully complemented with a sweet essence of fresh orchard fruits and dark chocolate.

Usual price per shot £18:50
Our Price per shot £4.25

Creative Scene Newsletter

Hello and welcome to our newsletter!

As Summer most definitely comes to an end and as we head full steam into Autumn, we thought we would take a look back at the events we’ve hosted recently and share with you some of our highlights. There are way too many to mention but hopefully it should give you an insight into what we got up to during the summer months!

From July to September, over 1,400 Kirklees residents came along to or took part in our events and activities, and over 500 more watched our short films online.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and took part – we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

As always, any queries drop us an email hello@creativescene.org.uk or send us a direct message on our socials – Facebook, X and Instagram.

What we did during the summer ...........

We supported local events – Batley Gala and Batley Fun Day in bringing communities together with fun walk about shows for all the family to enjoy. The Legends of Cricket were a big hit at Batley Cricket Club’s Gala and The Bee Cart brought a special buzz to Change Grow Live’s Batley Fun Day in Wilton Park, entertaining as well as educating about the importance of bees!

SCRUMPTIOUS!

This summer we teamed up with The Friends of Crow Nest Park  to bring theatre company Beggars Believe Collective and their show SCRUMPTIOUS! the magical story of Sylvie the sweet shop owner to the Walled Garden at Crow Nest Park. We all enjoyed sunshine, stories and sweet things as well as learning all about friendship and learning hilarious songs. We hosted four sell out shows over two days as well as special performances for families from Ravensthorpe Community Centre.

Heritage Open Days 2024
Play Lawns & Walled Garden Tea Party

The Walled Gardens, Adventure Playground and The Friends of Crow Nest Park hosted our special Heritage Open Day event in September 2024.Taking inspiration from the ‘play lawns’ that were once a feature of the park, we brought lots of fun, family friendly activities for all to enjoy. They included Cloud Gazing, Circus Skills, craft workshops and special performances from Trixie and Tillie, The Tea Ladies.

Older residents and families alike were hosted for a special afternoon tea by our own tea ladies in the Walled Gardens  with a classical music string trio, and beautifully decorated tables created by artist Donna Ramsden with local young people - they really did make the setting extra special!

Peace by Piece

One of our favourite projects through the summer was Peace by Piece - a series of creative workshops for women and girls to learn the craft of lino printing and discover what Peace meant to them. Held in the beautiful surroundings of Bagshaw Museum and led by textile artist Ranya Abdullateef the women embraced the opportunity and created some truly stunning pieces. The final collaborative piece will be displayed later in the year with a special launch event- keep checking our website or follow our socials tor the launch date

What's On - Autumn 2024

1st November 2024
Dewsbury Elim Pentecostal Church, Wellington Street, WF13 1LY

This magical story of Lila takes her on a voyage across lakes and over mountains, facing her biggest fears and learning everything she needs to know -to become the person she has always wanted to be.

The show features talking elephants, silly kings, magical creatures, magic and lots of audience participation.

£2 per person or pay what you feel.

Book in advance – two showings at 10.30am and 1.30pm with a free craft session running in between.

To book - https://www.creativescene.org.uk/events/the-firework-makers-daughter/

Bringing a special Spark to town centre Christmas Events

2024 Book Talk Series

NICOLA TALLIS
11 October 2024, 7:30pm

Join us on Friday 11th October for a special evening event as Nicola Tallis celebrates her latest book, ‘Young Elizabeth’ with us at Alnwick Castle!

Queenship was by no means a certain path for Henry VIII’s younger daughter - by the time she claimed the throne, she had already endured more tumult than many monarchs experienced in a lifetime. This colourful and detailed biography charts Elizabeth’s turbulent upbringing, exploring the dangers and tragedies that plagued her early life, drawing on primary sources written by Elizabeth herself to shed new light on this iconic queen.

Following the talk, Nicola will be answering audience questions and signing copies of her books!
