Distillery Newsletter

Hi

What a month August has been. Open Day at the end of July already feels like a distant memory. It was so good to welcome so many people to the day - the Masterclasses were sold out, we had to go up to the brewery to get more beer (twice!) and we had a great response to our new whisky on the day, Filey Bay Yorkshire Day 2023.

As we write, the first fields of Spring Barley are being harvested and it’s maybe, possibly, perhaps starting to finally feel warm and summery here on the Yorkshire Coast, just in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.

This coming Saturday, we have our August Distillery Session. Swing 42 are two guitarists who bring toe-tapping Gypsy Swing rhythm to Jazz, Pop and Blues classics. Their aim, they say, is for you to be singing along by the end of the set and humming those tunes for days to come. Tickets are available from the website or by calling the team. Great music, great whisky and great food… that’s what bank holidays are made for!

In good spirit,

The Distillery Team

Distilling

Award winning Whisky!

We're delighted that we can announce that we won SEVEN gold medals in the 2023 World Whisky Masters Awards, by the The Spirits Business. Seven!

We talked a lot at Open Day and with our Cask Owners too about only releasing whisky when it's ready... and this is testament to that and a real reassurance that what we're doing tastes as good as it can.

Filey Bay Yorkshire Day 2023

Have you tried Yorkshire Day 2023 yet? What did you think? Joe (Whisky Director) finds honeycomb, gingerbread and a touch of peach munch bunch; Jenni (Marketing) thinks the slightly spicy sweetness is excellent alongside milk chocolate; and Morgan (Sales) makes a strong argument for it being the best Yorkshire Day yet…

A marriage of ex-Madeira and ex-Bourbon casked whisky, we all agree that it’s distinctive and different from what’s come before (and very delicious too). As a distillery exclusive, there are a small number of bottles left on the website, after that it’s on the shelves in the distillery shop only.

Growing

On the farm

As we write, the first fields of spring barley is being harvested and we’re hoping that the rain will stay away for a few more days. The winter barley and wheat is all in, with the first cover crops already giving the fields a green tinge.

Did you know that the Centenary Way runs through the part of the farm? It’s a stunning trail that spans North Yorkshire. If you’re on your way to Hunmanby and fancy a bit of a rest, take advantage of “Gill’s Bench” and give yourself a few minutes at the top of the dale.

Enjoying

Out and About

Whisky show season is about to start good and proper. To find out where we’ll be pouring and when, keep an eye on the ‘Tours and Events’ page on our website where we have a handy ‘dates for the diary’ section that we do our best to keep up to date!

In the meantime, a few things to note:

Living

The Pot Still Coffee Shop

The Pot Still Coffee Shop is back open again, with a refreshed menu, created under the watchful eye and guidance of Yorkshire Chef Steph Moon. Join us at the distillery seven days a week for Filey Bay Rarebit, Rostis, Pancakes, Boards and much more, as well as, of course, our fantastic selection of homemade cakes. The wine list has been carefully selected by the team with a range of styles and grapes, including a number of English wines too.

Take a look at our new menus here!

Distillery Sessions

Every other month we host live music at the distillery. Co-founders Dave and Tom love their music and we aim to host some of the best artists in the local area.

This month, we have Swing 42, bringing their toe-tap-inducing style of gypsy jazz to the distillery.
