Fringe @ Seven
Now the carnival is behind us, we have
a stellar week at Seven to look forward to in the run-up to Chapel
Allerton Arts Festival at the weekend.
We kick off with one for the kiddies, Wednesday 30th August, 11.30am, the
very popular Anything Can Happen where
star storytellers bring your make believe to life with hilarious
results. Suitable for 4-12 year olds. £4.
Also, Wednesday
30th August, 7.30pm, Silky & Friends.
This month Kevin Gildea headlines, “Highly original, explosively funny”
– Sunday Times.
Plus, Abigail Rolling: Shit Lawyer “Like the Secret Barrister, but with
gags and a face” –
Scotsman. Surprise guests…and Silky as host. £12 / £10.
On Thursday 31st
August, 7.30pm JazzLeeds - Instant World
Orchestra + Elf Mode. The IWO led by Richard Ormrod is an
ensemble playing fantastic groove-led music inspired by the great
musical traditions of the world, and Elf Mode is a new Leeds based jazz
fusion band. Terrific stuff. £12
/ £10, 25s and under £6. Doors 7pm.
Meanwhile in Seven Bar
at 8pm, Folk Roots Fringe presents an Irish Traditional Music
Session led by local musicians. Donations to Chapel Allerton Arts Festival.
Contemporary soul with a catchy folk-pop appeal from Jake Isaac on Friday 1st September, 8.15pm, plus
support from Joel Baker playing acoustic pop with spoken-word
influences. £16 adv
/£19 on the door. Doors 7.45pm.
On Saturday 2nd
September, 2pm - 4.45pm, the 2023 Café Run. A
number of musicians move around performing for 15-20 mins at various
cafes and bars in Chapel Allerton, adding to the Festival community
atmosphere in the village.

In the evening on Saturday
2nd september, 7pm, JazzLeeds – Asha
Parkinson’s ‘Kalpadruma’.Founded by saxophonist/composer,
Asha Parkinson, “Kalpadruma” is an exciting band exploring connection
between Arabic, Turkish, Indian, Contemporary Classical and Jazz music. £12/10, 25s and under £6
This weekend, our Pop-up - Shouk
specialises in Middle Eastern street food serving up the fluffiest
pitas, insanely good loaded fries, and some of the best falafel in
town. Delicious. Friday
1st September 5-9pm, Saturday 2nd September 12-8pm, Sunday 3rd
September 12-5pm.
