New Shows Coming Up!

We’ve got a great line up of shows taking place over the next few months. Whether you’re into live music, theatre or art history, there’s something for you…

Crossings Exhibition

We are delighted to invite you all to our Crossings Exhibition, which passes through Hebden Royd in June.

This exhibition features prints and a slide show of hundreds of photographs submitted by the public of crossings found around Calderdale, curated by Lizzie Lockhart. Open from 11am to 4pm, and completely free, you can visit the exhibition on tour at your local community venue as follows:

Tomorrow, Saturday 11 June:
Hebden Bridge Town Hall, St George's Street, Hebden Bridge, HX7 7BY - the exhibition is in the Waterfront Hall (through the café – why not stop for some well-earned cake?)

Next weekend, Saturday 18 June:
St John’s Church, Church Bank Lane, Cragg Vale, Hebden Bridge HX7 5TF – the church you pass on the way to the Hinchliffe Arms (which has re-opened, and will welcome you from 1pm)

Last chance… Saturday 25 June:
Come and see us at Mytholmroyd Community Centre, Caldene Avenue, Mytholmroyd, HX7 5AF on the last day of the exhibition.

While you appreciate the photographs, hear a SOUNDWALK captured by local sound artist Jo Kennedy, inspired by the pictures that people have taken, and by time spent listening and recording in 6 Hebden Royd locations.

Crossings Soundwalk "We start by Hebden Water and walk into town, making our way up to the station and Mayroyd. A gate takes us into Nutclough woods and another one returns us a little while later to centre of Mytholmroyd. From here we venture up to the quieter slopes of Cragg Vale, and finally make our way to Midgely and the moor."  Jo Kennedy

In addition, on its first release is the official HEBDEN ROYD PHOTO MAP, beautifully designed by local maker and illustrator Kerith Ogden, influenced by some of the entries.

Together with Hebden Bridge Walkers Action this project has created a massive repository of local crossings which fill our landscape allowing us to explore - stiles, gates, tunnels, bridges, gaps in the wall, tracks and stepping stones.

Our next project: Open Space 70
We hope you enjoyed our Open Space 70 launch party at Hebden Bridge Town Hall on Saturday 4 June - we had a blast.

Thanks to everyone who was part of the day or the preparations, in whatever way. Here are some photos of the day's activities - which included music, walks, workshops, stalls and conversations about climate emergency and how we can creatively respond to the challenges of it.

If you didn’t make it along to see us last weekend it is not too late to take part – our project starts in earnest in the autumn and culminates next summer.  Have a look at our website for information about Open Space 70 and fill in the web-form to stay in touch, let us know you might like to get involved in the creation of something for our big sharing weekend, or to offer us an Open Space venue.

Wishing you all a lovely summery weekend, whatever you have planned,
Rebekah, Lisa and all at Hebden Bridge Arts
