LIFF 2021 Closing Film Ali & Ava in cinemas from 4 March
Made in
Bradford and supported by Screen Yorkshire, Ali & Ava was a
fantastic closing film experience for the 2021 Leeds International Film
Festival and is coming to cinemas from 4 March. Enveloped in music, humour
and emotion, Ali & Ava is a heartfelt contemporary love story
written and directed by BAFTA-nominated Clio Barnard (The Arbor, The
Selfish Giant).
Sparks
fly after Ali and Ava meet through their shared affection for Sofia, the
child of Ali’s tenants, whom Ava teaches. Ali finds comfort in Ava’s warmth
and kindness while Ava finds Ali’s complexity and humour irresistible. As
they become closer, they try to keep their newfound passion from being
overshadowed by the stresses and struggles of their separate lives and
histories.
Watch Ali & Ava in cinemas from Fri 4
March. Screening at Everyman Leeds and Harrogate, Vue Leeds in The
Light, Bradford's Science and Media Museum, City Screen York & more

The
LIFF Presents on 9 March: The Phantom of the Open
Mark Rylance shines as the hapless golfer Maurice Flitcroft in Craig
Roberts’ big hearted comedy. The Phantom of the Open is based
on the true story of a crane operator from Barrow-in-Furness who
blagged his way into playing in the British Open in 1976, only to get
(by far) the worst score in the tournament’s history. Our LIFF
Presents preview is on 9 March at Vue in The Light and the film is
released in cinemas on 18 March.

Presents on 9 March: Red Rocket
Sean Baker follows up Tangerine and The Florida Project
with another vivid, spiky and unaffected comedy-drama set on the
margins of modern American society. Simon Rex delivers a horribly
compelling performance as Mikey, a self-centred and opportunistic ex
adult industry star who returns unwelcome to his hometown for a new
start. Our LIFF Presents preview is on 9 March at Vue in The Light
and the film is released in cinemas on 11 March.

In writer-director Laura Samani’s captivating feature debut Small
Body, a young woman embarks on a mythic odyssey across the
majestic landscapes of 1900s' Italy to save her daughter’s soul.
