15 - 17 July 2022

Writing West Midlands and Nine Arches Press are delighted to announce a new festival for Coventry, current UK City of Culture.

The festival will take place across the weekend of Friday 15th – Sunday 17th July 2022, with the majority of live events taking place in the ‘festival hub’ at Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre.

An exciting, welcoming, and bold programme of workshops, live poetry and walking tours are planned, with a line-up celebrating some of poetry’s most exciting and inspiring performers, including well-known names, both local and national.

Following the success of the BBC Contains Strong Language Festival 2021Writing West Midlands and Nine Arches Press have been keen to continue to develop and support live poetry in Coventry.

The festival aims to build upon the legacy of last year’s events and the City of Culture status of the city to create a lively destination festival for poetry right in the heart of the city.

SkyLines festival will be accessible and hybrid, with online as well as real-space options for participation and attendance.

Jane Commane, editor and director at Nine Arches Press, commented:

“Coventry has long proved that it has a real thirst for culture and especially for poetry and spoken word – with a wealth of regional talent and a world-class performance venue in the form of the Belgrade Theatre. we aim to bring audiences some breath-taking, stirring and memorable poetry experiences as part of the festival in 2022. I am excited to be working with Writing West Midlands again to deliver a packed summer weekend, celebrating all things spoken, written and shared aloud.”

Jonathan Davidson, Chief Executive of Writing West Midlands commented that:

“It’s a privilege to work on the first SkyLines festival, which we hope will become a regular fixture in the festival calendar for Coventry, a city we’ve loved working in. We’re hoping to bring together poets and spoken word artists from Coventry and the surrounding areas as well as bringing inspiring, exciting performers to the city during the three-day event.”

The full programme for the festival will be announced and tickets will go on sale on Monday 23 May 2022.
