Cleckheaton Writers Group (CWG) met last night at Cleckheaton Library 5.30-7pm where Alice and Karen were in attendance, Cassie, Kathy and Gemma having passed on their apologies.
The minutes of the previous meeting were passed.
WIP updates: Karen has been editing her novel prior to digital publishing later in the year. She has also received a couple of rejections, attended two workshops and had a positive 1-2-1 with Jo Nadin. Alice has been editing her Bugs WIP and planning Project Nightmare for Camp NaNoWriMo in April. She has also attended a Picture Book workshop.
CW comps/workshops/events: Huddersfield Literature Festival is on and Writer's Magazine has a list of upcoming writing competitions. The SCBWI BI conference has been announced for November in Manchester. The University of Central Lancashire, Preston has a YA event in May over a weekend. The Write Mentor Mentorships open on 1st April, #PitchBookOuture is on twitter 9am-9pm on 25th March, the Cheshire Novel Prize deadline is 26th March and the Bloodhound Books competition deadline is 28th March.
Feedback sessions: As there were only 2 members in attendance, Alice will bring her WIP to another meeting. Instead Karen went through some of her notes from her 2 workshops, one on beginnings, the other on editing, and Alice went through her notes from her Picture Book workshop. A very informative session.
Writing plans: Karen will be continue to edit and will be conducting interviews for a student placement. Karen and Alice discussed the student placement editor position interviews including information like positive and negative feedback, offering suggestions and hitting story beats.
