Competitions and deadlines

Hello,

I hope all your young writers are well and writing away.

We have a few opportunities and deadlines that we would like to remind you all about.

1.  The deadline for submitting to Issue 24 of our Spark Young Writers Magazine will be closing on the 28th March, 2022. Submit your writing before the deadline to be considered for our magazine that will be published in April 2022.

2.  Our friends over at Quay Words are holding a flash fiction competition on the theme of 'Trading Places'. The closing date is midnight of 27th March, 2022. Click this link to submit.

3.  Submissions for the BBC Young Writers Award with Cambridge University 2022 will be closing at 9am on 28th March 2022. Click this link to apply.

Get submitting and good luck!

Commonwealth Games Creative City Project

Writing West Midlands are excited to be a part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival. We are working with 40 young people in three Birmingham schools (Harborne Academy, King Edward VI, Balaam Wood Academy and The Edge Pupil Referral Unit) to create 90 second films of their poems, written specially for the project. The poems will address themes identified by the Commonwealth Festival: Our place in the Commonwealth, The Present Moment, and Stories of Birmingham and the West Midlands.

We will take the opportunity presented by the Games to look at Birmingham anew; to remind ourselves of all the city offers to its young people; and to feel pride in the place that we live while visitors from all over the Commonwealth come to experience it for themselves.

If you are lucky enough to be attending or participating in any of the Commonwealth Games events, or attending any of the live sites or Festival events, look out for our films!
