Commonwealth
Games Creative City Project
|
|
Writing West Midlands are excited to be a part of
the Birmingham 2022 Festival. We are working with 40 young people
in three Birmingham schools (Harborne Academy, King Edward VI,
Balaam Wood Academy and The Edge Pupil Referral Unit) to create
90 second films of their poems, written specially for the
project. The poems will address themes identified by the
Commonwealth Festival: Our place in the Commonwealth, The Present
Moment, and Stories of Birmingham and the West Midlands.
We will take the opportunity presented by the Games
to look at Birmingham anew; to remind ourselves of all the city
offers to its young people; and to feel pride in the place that
we live while visitors from all over the Commonwealth come to
experience it for themselves.
If you are lucky enough to be attending or
participating in any of the Commonwealth Games events, or
attending any of the live sites or Festival events, look out for
our films!
