'Captions' Case Gets Its End Credits
It's finally over: Audible has agreed not to use AAP member content without permission in its "Captions" program as one of last year's biggest book biz lawsuits comes to an end. Meanwhile, in the bookselling world, James Daunt told the U.K. press this week that Waterstones is in good shape but Barnes & Noble is "a big mess." At HarperCollins, the second quarter proved rough for the publisher, while Hachette Book Group has acquired more than 1,000 Disney Book Group titles, a significant addition to its children's publishing programs. Elsewhere, the newly created Carol Shields Prize will award $150,000 to a female novelist beginning in 2022, the New York Times reports. And the Hindu spotlights a virtual reality installation in Prague that lets its users explore the literary world of Franz Kafka.
