Not sure what to do this weekend? Here are a few ideas of things to do this weekend for those of my followers who live in or near to Leeds, Alnwick, Halifax, London and New York:
WIN a night of
unmissable opera and unlimited sushi, get a bottomless Yorkshire afternoon
tea for £28.50 and check out the street food vendors using fresh local
produce from Kirkgate Market...
Over the past two months, we've announced 14 new
openings coming soon to Leeds and now we have another
nine to tell you about. This time, you can look forward to an
acclaimed steak restaurant, a new pasta trattoria from two local favourites
and a much-loved pizzeria winging its way over from Manchester. But
that only scratches the surface of what's coming soon to Leeds.
Treat yourself to an afternoon of utter indulgence with FireLake's
Yorkshire Afternoon Tea. Freshly-made sandwiches, sausage rolls and
quiches sit alongside Yorkshire curd tarts and fat rascals smothered in
cream and jam. Scoff it with bottomless bubbles for just £28.50 per
person – delish!
Opera North is bringing Bohuslav Martinů’s most rarely performed
opera to Leeds Grand Theatre this month and you can win tickets with
all-you-can-eat sushi at Blue Sakura. This is a surprisingly current
story set to an almost cinematic score, so there's no better way to dip
your toe in the water.
What a combination – a walk in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside
and a few pints along the way. These five walks are all within an hour of
Leeds and they're a doddle to get to, so plan a day out,
or even better, make a weekend of it to enjoy stunning views, leisurely strolls
and a couple of pints.
Enjoy a family-friendly day out for free!
Kirkgate Market is a local treasure, but have you tried the Market
Kitchen? It's home to a host of scrummy street food traders who use the
market's produce to serve up everything from Yorkshire pudding wraps to
Vietnamese classics.
They move, they roar and they've taken over Leeds. Now's your
chance to take the kids to see these life-size animatronic
dinosaurs. From the Triceratops in Merrion Centre to the T-Rex in
Trinity, together they form the Leeds Jurassic Trail, a
family-friendly jaunt around the city.
It's time to revisit some old Leeds favourites. For all the new
places opening in the city, these 10 bars are still up there with the
best of 'em. From Oporto to The Reliance, it would be
a travesty if you didn't reacquaint yourself with them on your next night
out. So work your way through the list and remind yourself why you love
them.

devoting hours every day and days every week, get in some new skill sets in
24 hours. Learn about hosting, cooking, building and more by finding the
right learning event for you.
How does a brew
your own beer course sound? How about creating a 5 star knock your socks off

Underground NYC
We're
told there is a guide to investigating NYC like a native new yorker. Avoid
being a tourist by taking a page out of, Don't Be A Tourist in New York by
blogger Messy Nessy Chic. Does it seem cookie cutter based on that title
alone? Maybe, but the blogger has a loyal following after the first
installment in the series which explored Paris.
The book maps out
locations across the city for those in search of vintage threads, authentic
dining, and historic landmarks both over and under the radar. Give it a read
and decide if it really does deliver some underground New York glam, or if
it's amiss.
Get Involved
The
Department of City Planning (DCP) asked the public to help them with their
next Comprehensive Waterfront Plan this Wednesday. The event will be held on
Governor's Island and is open to all ages, as long as visitors are interested
in voicing their ideas to improve the 520 miles of waterfront currently
available.
The day of
brainstorming will include planning workshops and other opportunities on the
issues of climate change, public access, and jobs. Show up to make sure your
opinion is taken into consideration regarding NYC waters.
