Hello New York,
Get out your planner and start coordinating what you’ll be doing this month by using our August event guide, full of concerts, festivals, and more social outings.🍾😍
They aren’t new in town but the Mayumon location serving up Shabu Shabu is impressing diners with their high-end service. 🍲🍶
The small but epic Queens Museum is receiving some new guidance since Sally Tallent took the reigns, traveling all the way from the UK with some fresh leadership. 🏛💃
She’s got comedic flair, style, and sass which is Mrs.Maisel is getting an interactive art exhibit at the Paley Center. 💋🎤

Must Attend Events
As the summer nears a close, it's time to strain every last ounce of sun and fun out of the month. A Gust Of Fun August Guide is filled with festivals to attend, film screenings to get a seat at, outdoor concerts, food fests, and other fun itineraries for August.
Grab your pals or ride solo as you explore some of the hottest free and ticketed events the city is hosting.
Maisel's Legacy on Display
See costumes up close during the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel exhibition at the Paley Center. There will be notable garments such as the black cocktail dress and luxurious coats. Fans can also explore the detailed sets like that of the hair salon in the Catskills or the plush booth of the Stage Deli, Rose's apartment in Paris.
There's also the Arthritis Telethon's TV set which allows you to perform your own comedy set and a B. Altman switchboard. As with the series, each item is cared for to maintain historical accuracy and the aesthetic flare popular during the time period.
From the UK to Queens
When the prized Queens Museum was in need of a new director its cries were heard loud and clear. Metaphorically, the need for a director was heard across the waterways and in the UK by Sally Tallant. The applicant inquired with excitement and applied with confidence, securing her position in the city as the new leading force of the museum which is the only remainder from the 1939 World's Fair.
As a traveler from the UK, Sally's new life in Long Island City and the professional journey she's committed to seem almost magical. Thankfully, NYC Makers wanted to pick her brain about the process and her plans for the Queens Museum now that she's living in the city.
Shabu Shabu Macoron
Italian and Spanish influences blend in the menu pieced together by chef Mayu Kanatani for Mayumon. The Shabu Shabu style restaurant combines fresh earthy flavors from veggies and broths with the savory notes from meats meant to be eaten in combination. A bit of beef tongue or shrimp accompanied by a dressing of balsamic soy and garlic is an example of the establishment's style, asking diners to use sauces and salads to join each bite as they go.
Most importantly, the ingredients are fresh and sourced from different cuisines which makes this Shabu Shabu experience one of a kind. There aren't any other eateries serving a main course titled Ajillo, after the Spanish shrimp dish. It's definitely differentiating itself from a sea of Japanese restaurants in NYC.

12E 49th St 11th Floor New York, NY 10017

Hello New York,
We love our city and it’s all of its characteristics, from swarms of yellow cabs each day to fluffy bagels and missing the dirty rinky-dink express trains. We wanted to express this love by creating a badass playlist of 27 songs all about New York. 🚕🎶
A new wave of affordable housing has taken NYC by storm but it’s still not enough to award us as the largest Co-living success with San Jose’s new Bay Area startup making moves. 🏠🎉
Don’t just eat it because it sounds authentic, eat it because it is! As a Thai native and New Yorker, the chef behind Bangklyn East Harlem represents the merging of cuisines and NYC’s melting pot in the flesh. 🍲🍤
I’ll be there for you when the rain starts to pour! Yes, that’s the opening song to Friends and yes, they’re celebrating their 25th Anniversary right in NYC with a detailed Friends pop-up. 🏙💘

Affordable Housing Fumble
This past November was the launch of ShareNYC, a publicly funded program that creates affordable co-living units. With a huge housing problem on NYC's hands, we'd hope to see more done to provide safe and clean options for people of lower-income means. Here's to looking at San Jose for answers, as their multi-bedroom suites add a dash of quality and luxury to their co-living development construction, boosting their ability to house a larger population.
New York's current 1,100 existing units are to be joined by 1,600 more but it still doesn't cut it. With only 9 months in the works, the Bay Are start-up project has become the first to openly acknowledge and include co-living units as a requirement in their zoning code. There is more to be done in the city but what's been inhibiting our progress?
Thai Eats Meet Vintage Shop
He doesn't like it but he cooks and he cooks it well! Prasong "Pat" Kanhasura is the refreshingly honest man and chef behind the enriching menu at Bangklyn East Harlem. The Thai cafe provides classics like Pad Thai and curry dishes in their purest forms as well as more eye-catching items like southern fried chicken in a nontraditional setting.
The eatery space doubles as a vintage shop of sorts, filling wall space with clothing and other apparel. If you're interested in tasting the American Thai comfort food first hand, drop in and maybe you can catch a glimpse of the legendary Pat with your own eyes.
Friends Pop Up
Pivot! Pivot! We wish we could've reached into the television set ourselves and shown Ross exactly how to handle that couch, instead we had to scream at the screen. Not anymore because that and many other scenes will be part of the Friends pop-up coming to the city.
Die-hard fans will have the chance to look through Monica's iconic purple door, sit in Joey's wrinkly old recliner or fiddle with Pheobe's guitar. Ticket sales begin August 2nd and are fixed at 29.50 a pop.
New York! New York!
New York City pride doesn't mean we ignore our flaws, it means we embrace our diversity and constantly improve. In honor of our city and all 5 boroughs, we have compiled a playlist.
It's a serenade in the form of many artists. An article compiling our favorite songs, all of which are dedicated to the city. Now, plug-in those headphones and listen to some Big-apple centered tracks.
