Cleckheaton Writers Group minutes

Cleckheaton Writers Group (CWG) met on Monday evening at Cleckheaton Library where Cassie, Gemma, Mark, Alice, Karen and Pauline were in attendance, Mandy and Sarah having passed on their apologies.

The minutes from the last meeting were passed.

WIP updates: Karen passed her romantic suspense MS to beta readers and received some feedback. She's also edited the first three chapters and synopsis of her crime novel which she brought along to share for feedback and will be submitting to an agent as part of their open submission window. Pauline has been changing the story of her WIP but not finished. Cassie has written a short story for her U3A group. The story was themed "the Norfolk fens." Gemma has begun writing the scenes for her second book and been planning, with Alice's help and advice. Mark has written two chapters of his WIP, 1 full chapter then fleshed out then 1st draft of another chapter. He's also read through the character POV in readiness and has been editing as thinking of self-publishing his first book on Kindle. Alice is still editing down her novel and she's got it below 55k which means she has lost 9.6k words.

Feedback session: Karen shared the synopsis and first three chapters of her edited crime novel. There was differing feedback but it was a consensus that she should submit it to the agent.

CW comps/workshops/events: Comma Press have a FREE short story competition with a £500 prize, deadline 25 October. The theme is A. I. and the story should be between 2-6k words. Lindisfarne Prize for outstanding writing in crime or thriller fiction sponsored by author LJ Ross www.ljrossauthor.com/lindisfarne-prize/. Capital Crime Writing Festival new voices awards via DHH Literacy Agency www.capitalcrime.org/new-voices-awards-entry/.

There was no time for a writing challenge.

The next meeting will take place on Monday 2 September 5.30-7pm. Cassie, Karen and Pauline passed on their apologies for this meeting.
