Mslexia competitions

With details of three different competitions, here is the latest Mslexia newsletter:

Hello there,

We thought you’d like to know that our women’s fiction competitions are now open for submissions. There are three categories: for full-length novels, short stories and flash fiction. Whether you write long or short, there’s bound to be a category to suit you.

And our prizes – for both the winners and finalists – can be life-changing. As well as a generous cash prize pot, we are offering agent representation, manuscript feedback, career mentoring, a writing retreat, pitching workshop, personal introductions to agents and editors – plus publication in Mslexia magazine.

Interested? Scroll down for details.

Novel (prize £5,000)
Please send up to 5,000 words, which should be the beginning of your novel for adult or young adult readers. This prize has been created specifically to promote the work of women who are (as yet) unpublished as novelists.
Judges: Bestselling novelist Louise Doughty, BBC Radio producer Nicola Holloway, literary agent Charlotte Robertson
Additional prizes: Five finalists will be invited to a pitching and networking event with agents and editors, and will receive manuscript feedback from The Literary Consultancy. As well as a £5,000 cash prize, the winner will also be offered a chance to be represented by Charlotte Robertson (who achieved publishing deals for three previous finalists in this competition).
Entry fee: £25

Short story (1st prize £3,000)
Please send unpublished short fiction up to 3,000 words in length in any style or genre for adult or young adult readers. Unpublished and published women are eligible to enter.
Judge: Award-winning short story writer and novelist Irenosen Okojie
Additional prizes: The winner and three finalists will be published in Mslexia magazine. Three finalists will each receive £100. As well as a £3,000 cash prize, the winner will be offered mentoring by an editor at Virago Press and a week’s writing retreat at the inspirational Moniack Mhor centre in the Scottish Highlands.
Entry fee: £10

Flash Fiction (1st prize £500)
Please send unpublished very short fiction up to 300 words (excluding the title) in any style or genre for adult or young adult readers. Unpublished and published women are eligible to enter.
Judge: Renowned flash fiction author and tutor Kathy Fish
Additional prizes: The winning entry and three finalists will be published in Mslexia magazine. Three finalists will receive £50.
Entry fee: £5

Closing date for all categories: 23:59 on 30 September 2019
