5 Things to Do This Weekend

Banish the winter blues by making the most of your weekend! Get festive and bag some fabulous deals at the Chelsea Christmas Shopping Weekend, before enjoying some epic sounds at the Spitalfields Music Festival.

Foodies who also have a penchant for bottomless drinks should head to temper city for the Christmas quiz, which makes for the perfect afternoon with friends when it's cold outside. Art lovers? You're in for a treat with London Art Week's first-ever Winter edition, and some exciting new exhibitions in town.

Chelsea Christmas Shopping Weekend

Nothing beats Chelsea in Christmas, and for one weekend only on 2nd and 3rd December 2017, we bring you the Chelsea Christmas Shopping Weekend. Not only will the area be bedecked in all its finest festive frippery, but shops will be putting on their best show – with special offers, added extras and the odd mince pie or two – to make your Christmas shopping a pleasure not a pain.

Stop by on Saturday for some free style advice from C&TH fashion contributor Martha Ward, and don't miss out on the complimentary horse and carriage rides that are sure to delight the little ones.

Read our full guide to the event here, including the best freebies, events and deals that you don't want to miss.

Unmissable Exhibitions

Dalí/Duchamp at The Royal Academy
They were friends, of course. Now it seems these two rebels inspired and encouraged each other too. This exhibition is at times moving, at others, hilarious and surprised. Luxuriously vulgar. Until 3 Jan

Hassan Hajjaj at Somerset House
The potent aromas of the Moroccan desert virtually waft through this exhibition as Hajjaj draws the nomadic world of his native Morocco into La Caravane. Singers, rappers and artists stand for portraits against bold stripes and fluorescent colours. Until 7 Jan

London Art Week

London Art Week has long been a staple in the city’s cultural calendar, but this year the event returns for a second time in its first-ever Winter edition. From 1–8 December, the galleries of Mayfair and St James’ will open their doors for the public to explore, enjoy and discover art spanning over 7 millennia.

Attracting seasoned collectors, experts, enthusiasts and beginners alike, we speak to Amelia Higgins, Project Manager for London Art Week, to bring you the ultimate insider’s guide – including the names to know and the exhibitions to make sure you see. Read our insider's guide here.

Fun for Foodies

A Taste of Christmas at Cowdray
The Cowdray Estate will hold its annual Christmas Tasting Day this Saturday, so that shoppers can ‘try before they buy’. Enjoy mulled wine and plenty of samples as you learn from experts how to perfectly cook your Christmas meal. 2 Dec, 10-3

The temper Christmas Quiz
Festive jumpers, tinsel, bad jokes and lots of Christmas cheer will accompany plenty of food, fun, fizz and trivia this Saturday at temper city. With unlimited drinks and three courses of temper classics to enjoy with friends, you'll be laughing your way to victory... 2 Dec, £39 per head

Spitalfields Music Festival

Guest curated by conductor André de Ridder (pictured), this year’s festival embraces classical music in its broadest sense, from an interpretation of Schumann’s Dichterliebe performed in a row of Huguenot houses by local schoolchildren to Daniel Brandt’s Eternal Something colliding with a techno collective.

Epic and mind-expanding, head to Spitalfields this weekend for an unforgettable experience. More information here. 2-10 December.
