December's News from Slung Low It was wonderful to welcome so many of you down at the HUB for our Christmas Fayre last week. Much merriment was had, it was brilliant seeing friends old and new, and so many families! Thanks to everyone who played their part, stallholders, theatre companies, musicians and choir, and to all of you who brought down the Snug Packs to Yorkshire Aid, who have asked us to pass on their thanks for your support. Bloomsbury published the script of all parts of Flood. We decided to offer on social media a free copy to drama teachers, schools, librarians and youth group leaders. We were overwhelmed by the response and in less than 48hrs all 300 free copies had been claimed by youth group leaders across the world. These scripts were distributed to UK schools, theatres, libraries and universities at the beginning of December and a handful made their way to Thailand, New Zealand, Denmark, Canada, Sinagpore, Austria and USA. That the ideas of Flood will be explored and interrogated by groups of young people all over the country, and indeed the world, in the years to come is a great thought to bring that epic project to an end. This month we are back at Contact Theatre in Manchester for another run of The Seige of Christmas - back by popular demand, the run opens next week on Weds 13th and we play through til Weds 20th December - ticket information is here - we hope to see as many of you there as possible. The HUB 2018 season begins in February and events for the first part of the year are now live. We 'll be shaking off any new year blues with the return of the ever popular Brennan Reece, and the Police Cops return with their hilarious sequel Police Cops in Space. Also in the month Lucy Nicholls and Antonia Beck invite you to stick two fingers up to the Grim Reaper and celebrate your own mortality in The Death Show. And finally, Porl Cooper, the mighty programmer of shows at the HUB, has taken the decision to step down from his role with us in the new year to set off on exciting new adventures in theatre elsewhere. He’s managed an outstanding programme of shows here at the HUB over the last five years, and been a central part of the team that built the venue into a place that so many of you love. We’ll be sorry to see him go but excited for his new opportunities to explore elsewhere. Have no fear the HUB will continue to be the same place that you enjoy coming to with a continuing programme of events, classes and visiting shows and we look forward to seeing you here after our winter break.
