The holidays are a time of charity and giving. My mailbox is filled with
all kinds of year-end appeals to support good causes. And you can’t go
anywhere around the city without hearing Salvation Army bell ringers.
So while we’re all in the mood to open our wallets and pocket books,
maybe it’s also a good time for authors to think about different ways to
fund their next books. Frequent BookBaby blog contributor C. Hope Clark
recently shared her thoughts about how authors can approach this
challenge. “Finding money for your book project requires you to think
like an entrepreneur,” says Clark. “Use the same brain power you use to
make up stories and paint beautiful words to think of ways to earn money
for your book.”
Her post is filled with great sources for grants, crowdfunding, contests
and even freelance gigs to reach your book production goals. Read all about
it here.
As the weather turns frosty cold here at my home in Pennsylvania, I’ll
help us all stay warm with this amusing feature on literary coffee mugs
from our friends at the BookBub blog. Have a look here.

Was 2017 a breakthrough year for your writing career? Did you finally get
that book started? Did you finish it? Well, there’s always next year, and
BookBaby will be around to help you whatever stage your book is in.
As for BookBaby, I can say that 2017 was truly a breakthrough year. Take a look
and see what I mean.
We’re in the middle of another huge expansion of our business.
- New
offices and meeting rooms for the growing BookBaby team of
publishing specialists, designers, pre-press specialists, and
customer service folk.
- New
quarters for our marketing staff of writers, designers, and channel
managers.
- And
a lot more new equipment in our printing and bindery center. By next
March, we will add another 80% to our book printing capacity.
I have a lot of folks to thank for helping to fuel
BookBaby’s growth. Starting with the corporate team that’s backing our
equipment and real estate needs, to all of the BookBaby team members who
are working in cramped quarters until we get all of the construction work
finished.
But the most important thank yous go out to you, the authors and
authors-to-be in the BookBaby community. Thanks to your publishing
passion, you’ve helped to make BookBaby the fastest growing
self-publishing services company on the planet!
So when we talk about how BookBaby helps break down all of the barriers
that prevent writers from becoming authors, we really mean it!
