With thanks to Slung Low, Millennium Square, Country and Townhouse and Brit + Co:

ME FOR YOU

Saturday 20th July at

7.30pm

Holly knows that human-beings have screwed the planet but she’s still desperate to have a baby of her own. She’s tried doing the right thing, but her bamboo toothbrush didn’t reverse global warming. So she’s joined Extinction Rebellion.

“Choosing sperm is weird. The one thing we know for sure is these guys are all wankers.”

If only her girlfriend would join too and help save the human race! But are we worth saving? A play about love. In the face of overwhelming evidence that we’re a despicable race of selfish parasites. Longlisted for the Kenneth Branagh Award. Directed by Helen Tennison.

“Authentic, live and dynamic” National Theatre
“Crafted with real wit and depth” Manchester Royal Exchange
“Fantastic. As funny as it is thought-provoking” Papatango

Dear Reader,

What would it feel like to live a life of additionality rather than subtraction? That is the question that ripples through the latest issue of Country & Town House, which – in a first – invited a guest editor to help curate an edition dedicated to our connection with nature. Arizona Muse is the poster girl for earth activism and says, ‘There’s a shift happening when we think of “luxury”. More and more, there’s a desire for a lifestyle that respects the delicate balance of our planet. A regenerative, connected and fulfilling existence – one that honours the Earth as our home.’ I’ve picked out our top features below to whet your appetite.

Have a great week.

WHAT’S EXCITING ME THIS WEEK

Making Vulnerability Your Superpower

I suspect not many people knew about the personal pain and suffering that Christiana Figueras was enduring when negotiating the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. But her learnings from dealing with her trauma, she believes, led to the success of one of the hardest negotiations imaginable.

Sexy Soil

There’s no question about it, soil is now super sexy. As the foundation of everything we grow, we need it though to be thriving with life – rich and fertile. With films, books, social media and celebrities shouting about it, can a fledgling campaign persuade us to all get our hands more dirty?

Your Daily Brew

Could you give up your morning coffee? One day you might have to unless the industry gets future-proofed. Yes, the climate crisis is coming for your cup. But work is going on to see how we can grow more resilient beans, plus innovators are developing some pretty convincing alternatives.
