| Life Writing
Workshops in Bradford Libraries | | 'This
Life' Life writing workshops in Keighley
Library Saturdays February 10th, 17th and 24th 10am - 1pm Do you have a story in you that you would love to share,
either by writing it down and/or performing it? 'This Life' writing workshops will help you share tales
from YOUR own experiences in whichever way you decide. Perhaps you
learned something important through your occupation, perhaps you have
wisdom to share on family life, or a hobby that others could learn
from. Writing tutor Andrea Hardaker will work alongside you to
help YOU put your story on paper and overcome any blank-page worries or
phobias you might harbour. In the workshops we will consider - - Structure and how best
to arrange your story
- Pivotal moments which
are key to the central theme of your story
- How best to
read/present your story to the world.
Each story should take five minutes to read aloud for our
Open Mic which will begin in March. The writing workshops are open to anyone who is interested
in life-writing (Adults 16+). Participants are welcome and encouraged to share their
work at our Open Mic, This Life LIVE at the Library - a gentle,
welcoming space for anyone to enjoy, particularly those new to
storytelling. So come and share your stories - we are all ears! You must
be able to attend all three workshops. If you have any questions email
- Library.Events@bradford,gov.uk £25.00 library members (for all three workshops) £30.00 non-library members (for all three workshops) Pay at the first session. To book - https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/bradfordlibraries or email - Library.Events@bradford.gov.uk |

Regency Valentine
Crafts:
|
|
Throughout the Georgian and Regency period,
folded paper puzzle-purses were used as a way of exchanging
loving messages between friends and romantic interests –
the forerunner of the modern Valentine’s Day card.
Join the lovely
Emma in the Old Kitchens at Chetham’s Library, and try your
hand at making your own Regency Valentines paper puzzle
purse!

Morbid Curiosities:
Gothic Stories In The Library
|
|
If you have been on a tour of Chetham’s
Library before, you might have heard that the cabinet at
the end of the Library corridor used to contain a real
human skeleton, rather than the books that now occupy it.
To the modern mind, a skeleton seems like a fairly strange
thing to find in a library, but libraries in the early
modern period – besides keeping books – fulfilled a similar
function to museums today, displaying ‘curios’ to excite
the interest of visitors. Chetham’s Library was no
exception, and our collections once included a variety of
curiosities – some of them morbid, such as the hand of a
mummy from Thebes – which were shown off to visitors by
boys from Chetham’s hospital school. In the same spirit,
and in conjunction with our new ‘morbid curiosities’ tour,
we’ve gone in search of sinister stories from the archives
to share with you.
