Dear Reader,

‘The earth is in its mid-life crisis,’ said Paul Polman, former CEO of Unilever and ultimate proponent of ‘business as a force for good’ this week at the launch of another sustainability champion, Diana verde Nieto’s book Reimagining Luxury (read her essay for us on the subject here). Lucky us – what a time to be alive and be able to reimagine the next 4.5 billion years (before the world really will be extinct). As Polman pointed out, the damage we’ve wrought upon the planet since the Industrial Revolution took about a minute if you look at it in these terms. Could we therefore spend a minute on recognising what’s gone wrong, adapting, changing and innovating for a great second half? I should think so. We’re pretty damn creative and most people are pretty damn good. We, says Polman, just have to take responsibility, have high ambitions and collaborate.

Have a great week.

WHAT’S EXCITING ME THIS WEEK

New Issue Alert

Transformation comes in many guises. Our latest issue of C&TH examines the theme, from rewilding in Transylvania and revitalising the fortunes of a downtrodden village to asking why we’re so weird about death (yes, we’re tackling the subject head on). Buy your copy here.

The Traitors Final

At time of writing, I don’t know the denouement but it’s bound to be a water-cooler moment. This show has kept me properly excited throughout a long January – and I want to know everything (especially if Harry trips over his overblown confidence). Here are the secrets we’ve found out…
