ahead of it going live on the website the next day and you’ll have time to
write and get started on your entry! Even if
you’re not entering the competition, these workshops are a great way to
develop your micro fiction skills! Can’t
make it live? Sign up anyway and you’ll get the replay link. Just £6. Status and Power Dynamics in Stories with Donna M Day
Saturday 13th Jan / 16.00-1800 GMT
SPECIAL OFFER - A 2-HOUR WORKSHOP FOR
JUST £5! The
status of characters in stories can make or break the conflict they need to
resolve. If Cinderella had been too frightened of the stepmother to pull out
the “other slipper” would she still be sweeping floors? If Sandy had said “I
am who I am and if you don’t like it, well you’re not the one that I want so
bye bye”, would Danny still be crying at the drive in? This
two-hour workshop will use techniques used by theatre directors and actors to
develop their characters to help you represent status and power dynamics in
your writing and add inner strength to your characters and intricate
complexity to their challenges. Keeping Your Reader Hooked with Amanda Saint (me!)
Sunday 21st January / 10:30 AM - 12:30 GMT
In this
2-hour workshop we'll look at ways you can set your novel up to reel the
reader in from the very first page and make sure that they never want to put
your book down. You'll get tools and tips for creating narrative drive,
getting the pace right and making sure your story has tension, mystery and
delivers what you want, when you want. Just £10. Fine Tune Your Words with Laura Besley
Sunday 28th January / 10:30 AM - 12:30 GMT
For many
writers editing is a significant part of the writing process. Within short
fiction, especially if you are aiming for a particular word count, it can be
make or break for your story. In this interactive workshop, you’ll get tools
for improving your editing skills, which will include examples and discussion
around the use of titles, dialogue, when to cut words out and when to add
them in, and more. There will also be an opportunity to edit a piece of
writing and share with others if you wish, so feel free to bring along a
draft or two to work on. Just £10. I hope
you’ll join us to make time for your writing! With
love, Please
