Zoe Lyons Thursday 9th February

★★★★★ A masterclass of how to write, construct and perform and Edinburgh show, or any show in fact’ - Funny Women

Zoe Lyons has kept herself busy in the last couple of years by having what can best be describes as a monumental midlife crisis. It involved buying a sports car, having a brief marital separation and running a 100k ultra marathon which didn’t really end well. Along the way her hair decided the best thing to do was abandon ship.

It ain’t easy being a middle-aged woman: try doing it with a combover. Thankfully Zoe has been able to explore the funny side of all these twists and turns. It’s time to sell the silly car and try and put the wheels back on her life.

What’s on in Edinburgh this month

Bringing the feel of the Bavarian festival to the city, Edinburgh Oktoberfest returns this month. Taking place in West Princes Street Gardens, the popular festival features German beer and food and live top-tapping music. Cocktails more to your liking? Then be sure to join Edinburgh Cocktail Week for 10 days of cocktails, bars, new festival features and an exciting line-up at Cocktail Village.

While if it’s award winning short films that captivate you, be sure to check out Edinburgh Short Film Festival’s varied programme.

Or why not settle down and enjoy the magic of storytelling, music, songs & ballads with Scottish International Storytelling Festival’s programme of spellbinding events.

Rounding off the month, and marking the transition from summer to winter, Samhuinn Fire Festival celebrates the arrival of the Celtic New Year with a dazzling mix of fire, drumming, acrobatics & theatre. This year’s performance takes place in Holyrood Park.

Recipe of the month with Chef, Will Holland.

The head chef at The Atlantic Hotel shares a seasonal pumpkin soup recipe. A simple soup utilising the flesh and pulp removed from a pumpkin during the carving process, jazzed up a bit with the addition of amaretti biscuits, fresh sage and parmesan cheese. A real winter warmer!
